What?

Finsbury Park’s latest creative hub, Arts Buildinghas partnered with Baker & Borowski’s SKIP Galleryto produce a unique and innovative exhibition, SKIP Gallery: LOOK AT THIS, comprising of seven large-scale skips, transformed into contemporary works of art.

Cleverly drawing on the concept of London’s evident throw-away culture, the eccentric exhibition will alter your perspective on the unexciting disposal containers, showcasing works from six renowned contemporary artists including Turner-nominated visual artist David Shrigley, multi-talented Serbian artist Maja Djordjevic and YBA artist Gavin Turk.

Expect to see striking statements, satirical commentary on consumerism, cartoonish sculptures, and a three dimensional graphic of a house ‘dumped’ into a skip, among other quirky and interesting works. To commemorate the exhibition’s launch, a ‘Ship of Fools’ by Paul Kindersley will present a fusion of drag, avant-garde theatre and medieval mummers, while co-founders Baker & Borowski will showcase their artwork ‘See You When You’re Older’, an emotive and spectacular piece drawing on both the founders’ personal lives.

SKIP Gallery was launched in 2016 when Baker & Borowski coined the idea to remodel skips into creative works of art. The talented pair have since collaborated with a range of illustrious contemporary artists, exhibitionists and brands such as David Shringley, Ben Eine, Selfrdiegs and AS Velasca in Milan.

Catherine Borowski, co-founder of SKIP Gallery said: “We’re continuing our trash art mission to turn skips into works of art and places of performance. That LOOK AT THIS will take place up the road from where I was born, grew up and went to school (it’s on the W3 bus route for goodness sake!) feels like a MASSIVE high-five air punch. It’s my North London homecoming. We’re throwing open the Arts Building doors to residents of Finsbury Park and art lovers alike to come and view our skips – the first time that 7 skips housing art will be viewed in one single space.”
