Brighton Marathon Weekend 2020

April 17 2020 - April 19 2020

Brighton Marathon

As the second-largest marathon in the UK, Brighton Marathon draws 18,000 runners, but the classic 26.2 miles aren’t the only highlight of the coastal city’s sport-filled weekend. As well as the marathon, athletes have the choice of participating in a 10k race, a breezy, mostly flat run with amazing scenery, and the BM ride, a 50km cycle – perfect for novices and seasoned cyclists alike – that winds through Brighton’s city centre and takes in much of the beautiful marina.

Despite its relatively low participant number (compared with the London Marathon‘s 40,000), the race draws a huge, enthusiastic crowd of over 150,000, which cheers the runners on come rain or shine – characteristic of Brighton’s reputation for friendliness. The centre of the weekend’s activity is the Beach Village, installed on the seafront for runners, their friends and family and the local community at large to enjoy.

Last year, the Brighton Marathon celebrated its 10th year, and raised around £6m for charity. 31-year-old Peter LeGrice claimed the top spot, breaking the British course record with his time of 2 hours, 16 minutes and 23 seconds. The fastest woman was Helen Davies – retaining her 2018 champion title – who completed the race in 2 hours, 34 minutes and 8 seconds. The UK’s second-fastest marathon, it is also one of the most scenic. The route snakes through the lively city, taking in famous landmarks like the Brighton Pavilion, but mostly has racers running along the spectacular seafront.
