The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair

October 2 2018 @ 8:00 am - December 7 2018 @ 5:00 pm

Spring decorative antiques textiles fair

The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair returns for its Autumn edition from 2-7 October 2018 at Battersea Park, London. More than 160 dealers from across the UK and Europe will be offering an array of antiques, works of art and decorative objects dating from the 17th century to around 1970.

Fine examples of every interior style are on sale, from early country oak and Queen Anne furniture to post-war modernism and works by Memphis Group designers. Whether furnishing a bijoux ‘fifties flat or a splendid Georgian residence, each element of the project, down to the finishing touch can be found at The Decorative Fair.

The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair aims to show visitors how period decoration might be used in their own homes. At each event, a themed Foyer Stand at the entrance to the Fair creates a vibrant, commercially-styled ‘look’ focusing on an aspect or period of design offered by specialist exhibitors. This Autumn, the Foyer Stand will demonstrate the influence of Japonisme on European interiors.

Since the 1850s, when Japan opened its ports after 200 years as a closed country, Japanese art and objects flooded in to Europe, eagerly collected by a captivated audience. Japan’s artistic styles – in prints, lacquerware, carvings, ceramics – influenced many Western artists and designers: the Impressionists, the Arts & Crafts and Aesthetic Movements, the Glasgow School and Charles Rennie Mackintosh (this year marks the 150th anniversary of his birth). Liberty stores in London, and the originators of Art Nouveau styles across the Continent have also been taken with Japanese design. Of course, since the mid-20th century, Japanese design has had a strong influence on minimalism. All works displayed in the Foyer Stand will be for sale. Expect to find examples of Art Nouveau, Glasgow School and Aesthetic Period furniture as well as Lalique, Daum and Gallé glass from France, plus European decorative tiles and ceramics.

The Fair is easily accessible from Chelsea, Sloane Square and Knightsbridge. A free shuttle service to the Fair from outside the Sloane Square Hotel runs four times an hour during Fair opening times. Delicious food at The Kitchen is available all day up on the Mezzanine (don’t miss the home-made cakes) or treat yourself to a cocktail or glass of champagne. On-site packing and shipping services are available (UK and international).

The Decorative is the only major arts fair to welcome well-behaved dogs (on leads). Take a walk in Battersea Park and bring your dog when you shop!
