Goldsmiths’ Fair 2018: Excellence Made

September 25 2018 - October 7 2018

Goldsmiths' Fair

Returning this September for its 36th instalment is the esteemed Goldsmiths’ Fair, the ultimate destination for independent designer craftsmen in precious metal fine jewellery and contemporary silver. Over the two weeks, visitors can expect to see highlights and special features including VIP guests and curated showcases, new collections from 138 silversmiths and jewellers, viewings of the company’s 700-year old treasured collection, a film installation, and a varied programme of industry talks and ‘meet the maker’ events, all in the breathtakingly grand setting of Goldsmiths’ Hall in Eastern Central London.

Goldsmiths’ Fair is first and foremost a shopping event, a place for sharp cultural types and collectors to appreciate the creme de la creme of contemporary goldsmithing and silversmithing. After their recent appearance at the international art fair Collect, Goldsmiths is back this year with a specific focus in mind; to showcase the finest contemporary designers on a larger scale than ever before. This year’s event will champion British makers who push boundaries in transforming old-fashioned techniques and aim to inspire their audiences with their craft. One way Goldsmiths is proving this intention is by way of their Graduate Bursary Programme, where the 10 most talented upcoming fine jewellery stars are identified and provided with world-class training and a free stand at the Fair, helping to propel them into success with exposure and brand awareness. Each year, a new cohort of talented makers are chosen and consumers are able to be in-the-know of who the next design superstars will be.

Talks will be running all throughout the Fair by some of the biggest and brightest specialist names in the industry. A couple to note are jewellery historian and internationally famed Dr Jack Ogden who’ll be speaking on Thursday 4 October about diamonds and tradition, Gallerist Louisa Guinness, a master collector who’ll speak about art as jewellery, British Museum Department of Asia Curator Carol Michaelson who’ll share the fascinating history of China’s most valued stone on Friday 28th September, and Kathryn Jones, Senior Curator of Decorative Arts for the Royal Collection Trust who’ll divulge on her recent catalogue raisonné as an expert in the collection of Her Majesty the Queen.

Visit Goldsmiths’ Fair 2018 for fine craftsmanship, educational talks by experts, special exhibitions and a one-of-a-kind shopping experience where all sales go directly to the independent designers themselves.
