If you’re looking to improve your life drawing skills, is there a more perfect place to learn than the Royal Academy? The RA’s historic Life Room has been used by artists since the 1860s and will be the backdrop to the Royal Academy’s Life Drawing Skills course this summer.

Royal Academy Life Drawing Class

The weekend-long course will focus on the art of drawing the human form, with classes overseen by the artist Adele Wagstaff. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of drawing the human form and anatomy, working from life models in a series of poses.

Through mediums of drawing and painting, participants will focus on the work of French artist Edgar Degas (1834–1917), regarded as the founder of the Impressionist movement. Through drawing, attendees will explore the human figure, working from both short and long poses, experimenting with different materials and considering composition and how the figure is positioned within the rectangle.

Materials used during the course will include oil and chalk pastels and watercolour, gouache and acrylic paint. All materials will be provided, as well as lunch, and a wine reception at the end of the second day to celebrate participants’ progress.

Drawing and painting the modern nude; Weekend-long practical course; £420 for 14 July and 15 July, 10:30am – 5:30pm. Book tickets here.
