For a seaside experience without the sand, head to Mayfair’s Grosvenor Square this May bank holiday weekend, where a two-day event is taking place to celebrate the Great British seaside. With music, food, entertainment and fairground rides against an Instagram-friendly backdrop of beach huts and giant deckchairs, it’s the perfect family day out. Children can take part in craft and environmental workshops inside a giant inflatable whale before enjoying a traditional coastal feast of fish and chips, ice cream and candy floss. As a nod to the May Fayre historically held in Grosvenor Square, there’s also the opportunity to take part in maypole and Morris dancing, as well as peep-through boards and customisable commemorative postcards to share with friends and family.
The May Fair, sponsored by landowner Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, is the beginning of a series of exciting events taking place in Grosvenor Square this summer, including the annual Summer in the Square.
