Sustainable Wine Tasting with Berry Bros. & Rudd

March 28 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Berry Bros. & Rudd

You’ve heard of sustainable dining, but what about sustainable drinking? Family-owned wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd are hosting their first customer wine tasting focused on sustainability in winemaking, taking place this March. Down to Earth: a Tasting Rooted in Sustainability will give guests the opportunity to learn about and try a selection of wines from around the world, all of which are produced using environmentally friendly approaches.

The wine tasting will demystify some of the complicated terms surrounding sustainability in wine, such as biodynamic, organic, low-intervention, dry farming and sulphur. Producers such as Eva Fricke from Rheingau in Germany, Rosie Finn from Neudorf in New Zealand, and Morgane Fleury from Champagne Fleury will be in attendance, alongside experts from Britain’s oldest wine merchant, Berry Bros. & Rudd. This will give visitors an opportunity to learn what to look for on wine labels and lists, both in terms of production and taste. For those interested, an additional masterclass will be taking place, where guests can listen to three winemakers discussing what it’s like putting theory into practice, and the impact it has on their wines.

“Increasingly we are seeing our customers searching for more than simply a bottle of wine,” says Wine Director Mark Pardoe MW. “They are making more environmentally conscious decisions and they want to feel that whatever they are buying aligns with their personal values. As a family business, Berry Bros. & Rudd celebrates longevity, quality and investing in the future.  We take pride in working with producers who share this philosophy. Most of  our suppliers are relatively small-scale with both understanding and empathy for what the vine needs to be healthy and sustainably productive.  It is now rare to find a producer of the quality we seek at Berry Bros. & Rudd who is not concerned with the environment.”

Founded in 1698, Berry Bros. & Rudd has gained two Royal Warrants during their 300+ years of experience in the winemaking sphere. Their current range includes over 4,000 wines, sourced from over 25 countries and including both traditional and not-so-traditional varieties.
