Bacchanalia

If your Mother’s Day plans involve spoiling your mum rotten this year, then a visit to viral Mediterranean restaurant Bacchanalia should be high on your list of dining options. The restaurant, which is one of the few to boast both style (just look at those interiors) and substance (the food is well worth the hype, just see our review here), has unveiled a special set menu for Mothering Sunday. Comprised of three courses, the menu offers signature dishes like sea bream carpaccio, green apple and avruga caviar, bucatini bolognese and the famous Bacchanalia tiramisu – this last dish alone is well worth the visit. You can also toast the occasion with the restaurant’s 650-strong wine list…

The Mother’s Day set menu consists of three courses and starts at £45. 1-3 Mount Street, London W1K 3NB, bacchanalia.co.uk

Petersham Nurseries Café

Petersham Nurseries

A botanical haven housed inside a greenhouse in Richmond, the original Petersham Nurseries was destined for leisurely Sunday lunches. It’s an undeniably beautiful spot, set beneath a canopy of bougainvillea, vines and jasmine, serving a seasonal Italian-inspired menu made using produce from the organic family farm in Devon. Treat your mum to dishes like harissa chicken with cumin yoghurt, chargrilled beef with chicory and parmesan, and burrata with grilled apricot alongside Italian wines. Alternatively, book the Classic Petersham Afternoon Tea, which includes an array of seasonal sweet and savoury treats. Better still, the restaurant is a pioneer in eco-minded dining, and holds a coveted Green Michelin Star for its sustainability efforts. Afterwards, you can browse the plant nursery and deli, or go for a walk around Richmond Park

Bocconcino Soho

Located just round the corner from Oxford Street, this Italian favorite is the perfect spot for lunch before or after shopping. Tuck into spring dishes like baked sea bass with potato crust, grilled tuna fillet with vegetable caponata, and Scottish beef rib-eye served with roast tomato and mushroom. Better still, all mums will be treated to a complimentary cocktail: the Tuscan Herb Walk, made with gin, Italian herbs, Cointreau, rosé wine and fresh grapefruit juice.

Spring

Spring at Somerset House

Skye Gyngell’s restaurant Spring, set in a 19th century drawing room within Somerset House, is up there with London’s prettiest restaurants. Think cloud-like chandeliers, blonde wood, blush-toned fabrics and plants aplenty, plus an art installation of white porcelain petals lining the walls. High ceilings and large windows create a tranquil atmosphere – perfect for lunch with mum. An equally beautiful Italian-inspired menu features dishes like taglioni with creme fraiche and sage, and spiced lamb with tomato and chilli jam and labneh, with most ingredients sourced from Skye’s biodynamic farm in Hertfordshire. There are some lovely cocktails on offer, too – think jostaberry-infused margaritas and rhubarb gin tipples – and afterwards you can pop into one of the exhibitions on show.

Kitchen at Holmes

Marylebone restaurant Kitchen at Holmes is loosely inspired by its namesake Sherlock Holmes, but it’s certainly no gimmick – the only evidence of the detective is a special cocktail (the Sherlock’s Pipe) and some deerstalker hats dotted around. Aside from this, it’s just a stylish dining room serving a lovely, Mediterranean-inspired menu developed by Head Chef Stefano Motta. Enjoy dishes like Sicilian red prawn carpaccio, courgette spaghetti with smoked ricotta, and a sharing sea bream with a warm new potato salad. Pair with an afternoon wandering round the shops of Marylebone for the perfect Mother’s Day.
