Barbie Palettes
Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie film has been a hot (pink) topic this summer, and it’s safe to say we’re obsessed with the glimpses we’ve had of Margot Robbie decked out in fuschia hot pants and flares. We’re not the only ones falling for the film’s visuals, either – Valentino’s Creative Director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, made his Aw22 collection an ode to our new favourite shade of pink. Outfits were built around the colour, creating a bold, monochromatic palette. As the saying goes: go big, or go home. You can stay true to the trend and paint your entire wardrobe pink, or slip into the colour gradually (although bear in mind that it’s a slippery slope).

Back to Work
After a solid two years of wearing sports bras and jogging bottoms to work (from our makeshift WFH desk, of course), we’re ready for a tailoring takeover. Suits are back in fashion – but not like you know it. Inspired by our collective love of Barbie Pink (thanks, Margot), designers have been sending models onto the catwalk in fuchsia suits fit for a day at the Dream House. Pink not your colour? Not to worry, as other designers such as Michael Kors and Alexander McQueen opted for bright pops of colour on their blazers while the likes of Alberta Ferretti took on texture with a velvet number.

Painted Legs
Fish out your fishnets, pull on your pantyhose and shimmy into your stockings: this transitional season we’re layering up with our favourite pairs of tights, socks and leggings. Think swirling patterns, neon colour palettes, cut-outs and fun textures. Australian luxury brand Zimmerman is one to watch when it comes to this trend – just look at its recent AW22 collection for reference – decorating its tights and leggings with whimsical illustrations inspired by astrology and star signs.

Vintage Garms
Nostalgia is a force to be reckoned with in fashion, and we’re, quite frankly, obsessed. Whether it’s a 70s-esque sweater vest, a good pair of flares or a vintage slip dress, chances are we’ll be wearing it come autumn. If you fancy a glamorous spin on the AW22 trend, look to British trailblazers RIXO. The brand hosted an Old Hollywood-themed bash for its Fashion Week presentation, where models were decked out in sequined maxi dresses, beaded flapper caps and feather boas. This is the grown-up version of ‘playing dress up’, inspired by eras gone by.

Pleat Perfection
Our penchant for preppy staples isn’t going anywhere soon, either. The latest schoolwear staple to join the ranks of high fashion is the pleated skirt (or dress). Ideal for the office, brunch with friends, or simply exploring the city, you can’t go wrong with a good pleat. Burberry showed us just how it’s done with its AW22 offering, which saw the fashion house layering up its pleated tartan skirts with a classic trench and wintery boots. The brand also dove deep into the Barbiecore trend with a pink pleated number, worn alongside a sheer pink corset and wooly cardigan, and even experimented with a pleated coat-dress and green suit combo. Print and Repeat
Maximalism is also set to experience its own little renaissance this season. And what better way than with prints, print, prints galore. Most of us are already partial to a good print (or five, all at once), but this autumn/winter we’re going bigger and bolder. From psychedelic swirls in shades of neon, striking pinstripes on your favourite trousers and lots and lots of animal print. We’re loving Emilio Pucci’s AW22 collection, which perfectly sums up the playfulness of this trend. Wear your pattern of choice all on its own or layer up for a hotly anticipated (and welcomed) clash. The key here is mix your prints with texture, whether that be a velvet jacket, fringe hem or, in the case of Pucci, fluffy snow boots.

Bling Bling
Fellow magpies will be delighted by the return of all things rhinestoned, sequined and metallic. Designers are getting ready for party season with a whole host of fun looks designed to give its wearer some added sparkle, from glittering suits and skirts to fully bedazzled dresses. Looking for inspiration? For classic glam, look to luxury label Chanel armed its models with metallic capes, trousers and blazer-dresses in shades of gunmetal and silver for its AW22 runway show. Those after something a little more daring will be find themselves right at home with Miu Miu, which decked out its models in sequined net dresses layered over sheer crop tops and satin shorts.

Bomb It
As one might expect, outerwear is going to be a big thing for us once it starts to get colder, and designers seem to have synonymously agreed that the layering of choice this AW22 is the bomber jacket. However you choose to bomb it – we’re a fan of Louis Vuitton’s classic and androgynous look, worn by Squid Game‘s Hoyeon Jung above – this is a wardrobe staple set to make a comeback year after year. So, layer up and get cosy: we’ve got a long flight ahead of us.
