Everything you need to know about Bankside Yards, London's brand new development

Another day, another glittering addition to London’s skyline – this time in the form of a record-breaking skyscraper on the South Bank. Take a look inside Opus.

Inside Opus, The Tallest Residential Building In Prime Central London

What sets a new development apart? Well, it might occupy a killer location, or come with a few rather incredible amenities; perhaps it boasts a particularly fascinating history, or some impressive interiors. At Opus, you can expect a bit of everything – as well as a notable commitment to environmentally-conscious design. Oh, and it just so happens to be the tallest residential building in prime central London, too.

Opus stands proudly within Bankside Yards, a £2.5 billion riverside development spearheaded by British developer Native Land. Alongside eight new buildings – including London’s third Mandarin Oriental hotel – the 5.5-acre neighbourhood will be complete with a collection of shops, bars, restaurants and leisure spaces, all housed within a refurbished Victorian rail viaduct which has been closed to the public for 150 years.

Due to complete in 2027, Opus itself will provide 249 apartments across a spectacular 50 storeys. The building will boast an interlocking three-tower façade, a rather ingenious architectural decision which creates 75 percent more corner apartments than the average building (meaning that the majority of the residences will command dual-aspect views across London).

With prices starting at £895,000, this is most definitely a luxury development – especially since it will also contain four floors of amenities. Above the tower’s Grand Foyer, for example, you’ll find the Garden Rooms: a mix of social areas, co-working spaces and even a self-service bar. Opus will also house podcasting and art studios, a screening room, and a music room, plus a luxurious members’ club-style space on the 23rd floor. In the adjacent railway arches, meanwhile, you can expect a suite of wellbeing and fitness facilities including a bouldering wall, padel court, golf simulator, and gym, not to mention two pools, a yoga and Pilates studio, and a spa with treatment rooms and a sauna.

Underpinning all of these dazzling details, however, is something just as impressive: a host of energy efficient features. According to Native Land, in fact, Bankside Yards is set to be the UK’s first fossil fuel-free major mixed-use development, thanks to a pioneering energy-sharing network – the first of its scale in the UK – designed to reduce energy consumption by balancing resources between each of the site’s eight buildings.

‘As one of London’s most significant new developments, Bankside Yards is meeting a growing demand for the highest standards of sustainability while providing unrivalled amenities and access to the world-class cultural offer of the South Bank,’ says Alasdair Nicholls, Chief Executive of Native Land. It seems like London’s latest address really will stand out from the crowd…
