This North Cotswolds newbie has been designed as a restorative haven

From cosy pubs-with-rooms to grand country houses, the Cotswolds is certainly not short of good hotels – but there’s always room for one more. Launching this September in Charingworth near Chipping Campden is Hyll, a restored 17th century manor house that has been transformed into a beautiful hotel.
New Cotswolds Hotel Hyll Will Open This September
Set within 60 acres of meadow and woodland, Hyll is a design lover’s dream. The house is Grade II listed, and the adjoining former outbuildings were once frequented by T.S. Eliot, who would often visit the area. Manchester-based design studio YOUTH was brought in to spearhead the interiors, creating that classic Cotswolds aesthetic with stone, aged metals and weathered timber. Rooms are minimalist, with Naturalmat beds and countryside views.
There’s a focus on spotlighting British brands and independent makers, including bath products from Verden – with a scent made just for the hotel – alongside Grind coffee machines and ceramics from local artisans.
Foodies will also find plenty to be excited about, too. Chef Mark Coleman leads the restaurant, showcasing the bountiful local produce of the nearby farms, mills and distilleries, including beer from Jeremy Clarkson’s brand Hawkstone.
The hotel’s overall aim is to encourage guests to slow down, and treat the space like home. A weekend at Hyll might include lounging by the fireside with a book, enjoying a long lie-in or going for a leisurely stroll around the estate. Adding to the relaxed feel, there will be flexible check-in and check-out times, as well as breakfast picnics you can order direct to your bed.
Every Sunday, there will be walks for guests and locals followed by a communal lunch, while Stow-on-the-Wold store Borzoi Books will curate an in-room reading menu and supper club series. Wellness will be a core focus too, with in-room guided meditations, sound baths and breathwork sessions on offer.
There will be eight bedrooms in the main house, plus four further suites and 14 rooms in the adjoining buildings. And in 2026, Hyll will launch a new barn for weddings and events, designed by Tim Groom Architects and offering panoramic views of the landscape.
Hyll will be the debut property for new hotel brand, Madfabulous Hotels. It’s the brainchild of Paul Baker and Sarah Ramsbottom, who bring a wealth of experience from the hospitality industry – Baker founded international bakery brand St Pierre Group in 1996, while Ramsbottom has worked in events-based hospitality for 20 years.
‘Art, music, conversation and literature will all combine at Hyll,’ says Baker. ‘Having been one of those weary travellers myself, I appreciate a warm welcome and a comforting stay with interesting clientele. We wanted to extend the appeal of the Cotswolds with a warm, Northern, “make yourself at home” attitude. Ideally guests will kick off their shoes, put their feet up and be unafraid to nod off in a comfy chair by the fire.’
