Palacio Arriluce is perched on the bay of Abra in the idyllic seaside town of Getxo, only 20 minutes from central Bilbao. This 49-room hotel with restaurant, cocktail bar, wine cellar, infinity pool, spa and croquet lawn, marks a landmark transformation of a historic family palace.

Delaunay is the hotel’s signature restaurant, led by acclaimed Basque chef Beñat Ormaetxea. His innovative menu celebrates traditional Basque cuisine with avant-garde flair, spotlighting sustainability and the finest local ingredients. The Bar Inglés Cocktail Bar, located in the palace’s former chapel, is a masterpiece with intricate stained-glass windows and a shrine to vintage champagne.

Commissioned in 1912 by the Marquess of Arriluce, the palace was among the first grand residences built along Getxo’s ‘Paseo de las Grandes Villas’. This elegant promenade rose to prominence in the early 20th century as wealthy Bilbainos left the city in favour of the town’s coastal grandeur. With its neo-Gothic, medieval revivalist architecture, dramatic sea-front setting, and sloping gardens, the palace became a landmark gathering place for Bilbao’s high society. A small spa and extensive art collection featuring former resident, Sonia Delaunay and Eduardo Chillida complete the experience.

Today, this buzzy beachside town offers architectural marvels, sandy beaches, cliffside walks and a plethora of pintxo bars in its charming old town.
