Beatles fans, this one’s for you. In 1968 the beloved band retreated to an ashram at the foot of the Himalayas from which they wrote much of The White Album and Let It Be. And though the place is now in ruins, the remains of the bungalow have been immortalised by the lens of famed photographer Michael Donald. Now’s your chance to win these four rare images signed by Donald, worth a total of £700.

Leading UK photographer Michael Donald has just made a number of his much-lauded photographs available as signed open editions, including iconic images of The Rolling Stones, Leonard Cohen, Anita Pallenberg, legendary World Cup  footballers and The Beatle’s Bungalow in India . Available to purchase from the photographer’s website, the signed archival prints can be shipped internationally and make the perfect gifts for music, photography and sports fans (especially those notoriously hard-to-buy-for men!)

Described by The New World newspaper as ‘one of the UK’s greatest photographers’, Donald has exhibited work at The National Portrait Gallery, The Museum of London and international locations including Paris, New York and Los Angeles, winning numerous awards around the world. He was the last photographer to shoot individual portraits of all of The Rolling Stones’ original line-up. In addition to photography, Donald is also a celebrated documentary film director, and his film, Blitzed: The 80s Blitz Kids Story, which chronicles the trailblazing 80’s new romantic nightclub is featured in the current major Design Museum exhibition, Blitz: The Club That Shaped The 80’s.The common denominator in all my work is people,’ says Donald. ‘I tell stories in pictures. People’s stories.’

To coincide with an exhibition at the BAYTE restaurant in St. Leonards On Sea, we are giving away a set of four of Donald’s celebrated shots of The Beatle’s bungalow in Rishikesh, where the group, probably the best known people in the world at that time and disillusioned by fame, sought solace in an ashram at the foot of the Himalayas in 1968, writing much of what would become The White Album and Let It Be. The place is now a ruin but the bungalow where they stayed is still there and fans have been breaking in for years to graffiti the walls in homage to the band.  The 16” x 12” archive C-Type prints, worth £175 each, are signed by the photographer.

Competition closes on 1 February 2026.
