Reese Witherspoon’s Former Malibu Home Is For Sale

Much like Legally Blonde’s bubblegum-pink Elle, the actress who played the legal powerhouse shouldn’t be underestimated. Once deemed nothing more than America’s southern sweetheart, Reese Witherspoon has proved herself a force to be reckoned with – an actress, producer, publisher and all-round entrepreneur. Her features in series such as The Morning Show and Big Little Lies has secured her spot as a household name, whilst her off-screen venture Reese’s Book Club has amassed millions of loyal followers, creating a built-in audience for the screen projects produced by her company Hello Sunshine.

Away from the world of media, Witherspoon has built a reputation as a real estate mogul. Much like serial flipper Ellen Degeneres, Witherspoon is known to buy, sell and improve homes for profit. And this stunning Malibu home is just one of many in her portfolio.

Just a three-minute walk from Zuma Beach, the Oscar-winning actress bought this homely property – then known as Zuma Farms – in 2019 for $6.75m, selling it only a year later in 2020. The property was later purchased for £7.7m in 2023 by Canadian comedy YouTuber Cody Michael Kolodziejzyk (better known as Cody Ko) and his wife, fellow content creator Kelsey Kreppel. Since Ko purchased the house, it has occasionally been seen in the background of his TikTok videos and podcasts.

Built in 1949, the modernised farmhouse, turned wedding venue, turned home is now known as Cranberry Farm. Secluded up a long lane on Busch Drive in Malibu, this vintage-inspired home sits on 1.86 acres of land. Inside the three-bedroom midcentury residence, the home offers up colourful and eclectic cottagecore interiors, high ceilings, exposed wooden beams and hardwood floors, complete with patterned wallpaper, coloured tiles and marble finishes. Key features of Witherspoon’s former home include a galley chef’s kitchen, an open living space with a fireplace, and a main bedroom with an ensuite spa bath.

Outside, the grounds feature a repurposed entertainment barn with a covered porch, as well as a loft-style bedroom with treetop views, plus a full kitchen, bar, and lounge with a billiards table. Elsewhere, there is an all-glass gym offering up an outdoor sauna, cold plunge and hot tub, as well as a recording studio, horse barn, garage, and a vintage Airstream trailer which provides additional guest accommodation. Meanwhile, the grounds spread across grassy lawns with a standalone ivy-covered pergola, bocce ball court and chicken coop.

Born in New Orleans, and raised in Nashville Tennessee (plus a brief stint in Germany where her father served in the US army), Reese Witherspoon began her property portfolio in 2001 with a Bel Air mansion she bought with her first husband Ryan Phillipe for $3.3m. Sold in 2004 for $.5m, the Gerard Concord-designed home features vaulted ceilings, a wet bar, swimming pool, and outdoor spa.

In 2006, Witherspoon purchased a rural Ojai retreat in Ventura County, California which was designed as a farmhouse for industrialist Edward Drummond by acclaimed architect Wallace Neff, with interiors curated by Kathryn Ireland. Reese, who paid $4m for the home, resold the property in 2013 for $5m. Later, in 2014 she purchased a Pacific Palisade home for $12.7m, decorating the house with hundreds of books, including a statement bookcase. Without listing it on the market, Reese sold the home in April 2020 for $17m in an all-cash deal to a buyer who required no mortgage. In 2022, she returned to scoop up a four-bedroom home in the same area for $5m at 2,588 sqft.

Going back to her Tennessee roots, in 2018 Ressse bought a colonial-style manor house in Belle Meade for $3.76m. Built in the 1930s, the quintessential Southern home boasts two upper porches, a ‘backyard oasis’ garden and a swimming pool. Requiring significant upgrades, one of her renovation projects was featured on an episode of Netflix’s Get Organized with The Home Edit. She sold the estate in October 2022 for nearly twice the price at $7.4m. That same year, she made her biggest Nashville purchase yet – a historic three-bedroom home for $4.2m, and a sprawling $18m estate – a trend continued in 2023 with a 5,500 sqft home for $5.25m.

In 2020, Reese purchased an English country-style mansion in Brentwood, dating back to 1993. Hidden deep in a canyon and surrounded by trees, stand-out features include dark hardwood floors, stained ceiling beams, a wood-paneled library, and white oak staircase. The next year, she bought up a three-bedroom home in Franklin’s Temple Hills neighbourhood in Texas for $672,000.

Witherspoon currently lives in a Nashville farmhouse, having moved back to the area after her divorce from Jim Toth in 2023. She originally purchased the home from automobile industry giants Lee and Kelly Beaman as a ‘fixer-upper’ in 2014. The interiors are quintessentially Southern, with European influences, plus English climbing ivy covers the façade. The star is also said to own an island escape in the Bahamas, nestled in the exclusive Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club on Great Guana Cay.
