The Varsity Hotel & Spa Competition

The Varsity Hotel and Spa is an independently owned 48-room boutique hotel and spa, positioned in Cambridge’s vibrant Quayside area. The hotel’s design embraces a distinctly modern British aesthetic, blending traditional character with contemporary touches. Each individually designed bedroom combines rich fabrics and wallpapers from renowned British names, including Kit Kemp and Colefax and Fowler. Guests can expect bold patterns inspired by 19th-century English prints, complemented by solid oak flooring, sandstone bathrooms, monsoon showers and, in select rooms, freestanding Victorian baths.

The Glassworks Spa, housed within the adjoining warehouse building, offers a comprehensive health and wellness experience. Guests have complimentary access to the state-of-the-art health club, with a fully equipped gym and yoga, Pilates, aerobics and spinning classes. The spa also features a river-facing Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, hairdressers and eight treatment rooms offering facials, massages, manicures and pedicures.

The hotel is home to two distinctive food and beverage outlets. SIX, the 120-cover all-day brasserie, occupies the sixth floor beneath the hotel’s iconic roof terrace. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea, SIX is framed by floor-to-ceiling windows, offering exceptional views across Cambridge, from the spires of St John’s College to Midsummer Common and the River Cam.

The River Bar Steakhouse & Grill, situated directly on the Quayside overlooking the river, champions locally sourced produce, with prime beef aged for 28 days forming the centrepiece of the menu. Alongside its signature steaks, guests can enjoy fresh fish, vegetarian dishes, homemade desserts and a carefully curated cocktail list.

The Varsity Hotel and Spa is proud to offer the prize winner a two-night B&B stay for two guests in a Senior Fellows Super King Bedroom, including dinner in SIX Brasserie on one evening and two 50-minute massage and facial combination spa treatment to complement the stay experience.

Competition closes on 14 November 2026.
