The beloved BBC comedy will return for one final series

After two funny and heartfelt seasons, Daddy Issues series 3 is set to be its last.

For those who have yet to tune into the beloved BBC comedy, the series stars Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education, The White Lotus) as Gemma alongside David Morrsissey, who plays her well-meaning but hopeless dad Malcolm. Written by Danielle Ward (Brassic, In The Long Run), the Fudge Park-made series explores how we continue to grow-up and evolve as people well into adulthood.

In the first series, we meet Gemma as a 24-year-old who lives for the weekend, partying hard and getting absolutely wasted. Returning from a holiday to Portugal, she joins the mile high club with a random guy – and ends up pregnant. It couldn’t come at a worse time. The only person she has in her life is her man-child of a father, Malcolm (David Morrissey). Though kind, he’s lacking some key household skills and, suffering from the collapse of his family, is living in a bedsit for divorced men. So, when Gemma needs support, Malcolm ends up moving in.

What Happened In Series 2? (Spoilers Ahead…)

Last season we watched Gemma navigating life as a new mother to her baby Sadie. With her own mother Davina moving in and Malcom kicked out, Gemma conspires with her dad and his mate Derek to chuck out Davina and bring Malcolm back into the fold. Meanwhile, Gemma attempts to rekindle her old party-girl lifestyle, only to realise that motherhood has fundamentally changed her. The season wraps with Malcolm moving back in and returning to Gemma’s orbit.

What Do We Know About Series 3?

Eighteen months on from the close of series 2, Gemma and Malcolm have settled into a new rhythm. Sadie is thriving at nursery, and Gemma has been promoted at the salon, but after two weeks away she returns to find Malcolm has lost his keys, the flat has sprung a leak and the police are at the door. As a new romance threatens to resurface the ‘old Gemma’, she must lean on her father for support, as she attempts to be the grown-up she knows she can be.

Speaking of the upcoming series, Aimee Lou Wood said. ‘I’m so happy to be back with David Morrissey and the brilliant Daddy Issues cast for one final time.’ Morrissey added: ‘I love doing Daddy Issues so much, such a great cast and crew! So I’m delighted to be coming back to have more adventures with Gemma, Malcolm and the gang!’

Other new names to join the cast this series include Anthony Welsh (Bob Marley: One Love, The Flatshare) as Gemma’s new love interest Avery; Shobna Gulati (Hullraisers, Corrie) as the sultry new neighbour Odette; Liam Williams (Ladhood, Everyone Else Burns) as Rita’s put-upon boyfriend; Sophie Winkleman (Sanditon, Wild Cherry) as campsite owner Mary; and Seb Cardinal (Cardinal Burns, Sally 4 Ever) as the mysterious Silas.
