American comedian Ellen DeGeneres has put her sprawling Cotswolds estate on the market for £22.5 million. Set across 43 acres in the heart of the English countryside, Kitesbridge Farm is listed by Sotheby’s.
Why Are Ellen & Portia Selling Up?
In November 2024 Ellen and her wife – former Arrested Development star Portia de Rossi – swapped the US for the bucolic comforts of the Cotswolds. While they initially planned for their countryside retreat to be a part-time residence, they later revealed they would be moving to the UK permanently following the re-election of Donald Trump.
When Ellen and Portia initially bought their Cotswolds property, they only planned to live there for three or four months a year. When that expanded to be full time UK living, the couple realised there just wasn’t enough space available to accommodate Portia’s horses – one of the main drivers behind opting for a countryside retreat.

‘When we decided to live here full time, we knew that Portia couldn’t live without her horses,’ Ellen said in a statement issued through Sotheby’s. ‘We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them.’
Back in April, the comedian and her wife reportedly swapped their farmhouse home for a hilltop mansion on the outskirts of an Oxfordshire village, around 30 minutes away from Kitesbridge Farm. The couple’s new and more modern mansion reportedly spans around 10,000 sqft and comes with an infinity pool, theatre, gym and steam room.
Ellen recently confirmed the news of their move to fans at a one-off show at Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre. She told the crowd: ‘We decided we needed a different house, and now we are selling that house. So if anyone wants a house, it’s a beautiful stone farmhouse.’
Inside The Renovation

Branded ‘serial flippers’ back home in the US where they would buy-up and quickly renovate properties, Ellen and Portia have already completed extensive renovations on Kitesbridge Farm during their brief residence. The couple originally paid £15 million for their farmhouse last year (that’s £2.5 million over the asking price). Following the renovations, the value has now soared to £22.5 million.
While Kitesbridge Farm already had great bones, Andrew Barnes of Sotheby’s explaines the property was ‘quite tired’ before Ellen and Portia moved in. Hauling in an army of 70 workers, across four and a half months they added a single-storey extension, expanding the property from six bedrooms and four bathrooms to seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
The reno duo also added a two-bedroom guest cottage with its own kitchen and sitting room to the Kitesbridge Farm estate. Barnes suggested the property now looks like it belongs in Malibu, and is among the few homes in the area up to par with London or Los Angeles.

Discreetly hidden at the end of a long private driveway, Kitesbridge Farm now blends period character with a more modern design. Unfolding around a central courtyard, a series of reception rooms overlook the garden, while a vast kitchen and breakfast room sits at the heart of the house.
The ground floor holds the principal bedroom suite, which has two dressing rooms, a marble-clad ensuite and French doors leading to a private garden. Upstairs are five further bedrooms, alongside a large sitting room.
Other amenities include a gym, heated indoor pool (with showers and a changing room), a game room, a heated five-car garage, an additional kitchenette, private offices and an artist’s studio, a helipad (and accompanying helicopter shed with padel court potential) – plus a party barn with its very own pub.

As part of the renovation, Ellen and Portia landscaped the gardens and grounds to frame the house, introducing formal lawns, a kitchen garden, sculpted paddocks, and a series of outdoor living areas, including a covered dining space within the inner courtyard.
Kitesbridge Farm is located just outside the small village of Asthall in West Oxfordshire, about a 10 minute drive from the popular town of Burford. It’s the same village the Mitford sisters’ grew up in, and is the site of Jeremy Clarkson’s country pub, The Windmill, as well as the awarding-winning Three Horseshoes. It’s also within easy reach of Estelle Manor, Soho Farmhouse and The Club by Bamford.
