Who Is Joe Wicks?
Born in Epsom, Surrey, Joe Wicks was raised on a council estate by dad Gary, a roofer, and mum Raquela, a social worker. Following on from his sport science degree, Wicks first got his start in the world of fitness with his Richmond-based bootcamps. From there, he quickly garnered an online following for his quick 15-second recipe clips and workout videos, known under his moniker The Body Coach.
But it was during the pandemic that Wicks really became a household name, hosting live streamed PE lessons for children every day of lockdown. Dubbed the nation’s PE teacher, his record-breaking videos made him a social media star, and he was awarded an MBE in 2020. More recently, Wicks made headlines when he designed a harmful protein bar for his documentary Joe Wicks: Licensed To Kill in a controversial campaign to spread awareness about the dangers of ultra-processed foods. Inside Joe Wicks’s House
In 2023 it was reported that Wicks had bought a £2.9m Cotswolds country house near Chipping Norton – just down the road from the Beckhams, Jeremy Clarkson and Amanda Holden, as well as celeb-loved hotspots such as Soho Farmhouse and the Daylesford Organic Farm Shop. It is said that he purchased the pad after obtaining planning permission for a double-height extension, including an open-plan kitchen with glass doors which lead out into the garden.
Built in traditional Hornton stone with a Stonesfield slate roof, this Grade II listed home (plus thatched guest cottage) is quintessential Cotswold living. Set within 2.5 acres of idyllic grounds which wrap around the house so to be viewed from every room, this property is every bit the fairytale – the Swere Brook meanders through the gardens, bubbling past the wildflower meadow, orchard and herb garden. Describing the home, the estate agents commented: ‘The property does full justice to its divine private setting, bringing the home and garden together all to provide a truly dynamic home where village living meets a country retreat.’
Laid out over four floors, the kitchen/breakfast room sits at an elevated position, offering views across the garden and the river below. Inside the six-bedroom property are all the features you’d expect of a wellness guru: spa and sauna for recovery, a home office for plotting his next anti-UPF gimmick, a snug for unwinding after a long day, an oak-framed garage, a play room for the kids, and the all-important fully kitted out gym. Modern luxuries aside, Joe Wicks’s historic house is rich in period detailing with open fireplaces, exposed timber, mullion windows, window seats and leaded lights, plus the separate two-bedroom thatched Moore cottage which completes the quaint countryside feel.
Where Else Does The Star Own Properties?
As well as Joe Wicks’s house in the Cotswolds, he and his wife also own a beach house in Santa Monica, Los Angeles which he bought in 2016. Wicks first visited the city in 2010 with a mate, and it has been a dream of his to live there ever since – a dream eventually made reality when he splashed out on a 100-year-old home for an undisclosed fee. Speaking about the area over the years, on Instagram he wrote: ‘It’s such a special place for us. We ride our electric skateboards and cycle along the beach together.’
Back in the UK, Joe’s main residence is a £4.4m home in Virginia Water, Surrey, which he bought in 2020. The five-bedroom mansion includes a high-spec home gym on the top floor, a large garden with hot tub, sauna, and ice-cold bath, and an expansive open-plan kitchen and dining area with modern features like white metro tiles and a wooden breakfast bar.
