As expected, it's a knock out
Ever wondered where the world’s greatest heavyweight boxer called home? Now you can find out. Read on for a look inside Muhammad Ali’s LA mansion, which goes to auction this May.
Look Inside This LA Mansion Previously Owned By Muhammad Ali
Architect John C. Austin pulled no punches when it came to building this lovely estate in 1916. And it seems that sporting star Muhammad Ali had to agree, given his stint living in the property from 1979 to 1984. You’ll find the mansion located in Fremont Place, an exclusive gated community in Hancock Park, a coveted LA neighbourhood that was once a notable hotspot for Golden Age celebrities.
The mansion itself is nothing short of impressive, with stone steps leading to a European-style facade that takes its cues from the Italian Renaissance. Think stone patios, columns and oversized bay windows fitted with stained glass. It’s also flanked by a vast stretch of green space, as well as a pool, pergola terrace, stone fountains and patios – meaning there’s plenty of breathing room (1.5 acres, to be exact) surrounding the property itself.
Inside, you’ll find a space that’s set up for entertaining. The ground floor opens to a grand entry hall with wood-panelled walls, imported Italian marble columns and French Empire chandeliers, while explorations further into the house will reveal a sun room with a glass roof, a spacious salon, an ornate formal dining room, a living room with oversized bay windows and a den with a wet bar.
A quick look upstairs and you’ll find the ‘wow factor’ remains the same. The floor is comprised seven bedrooms and eight full bathrooms, with a primary suite that comes complete with its own fireplace and a columned deck that overlooks the beautifully landscaped gardens.
Fancy owning a slice of boxing history? The estate, which was previously listed on the market for $13.5 million, will be auctioned this spring with a reserve. The auction will be conducted by Concierge Auctions, with bidding set to close on 15 May 2024.
