Aesop’s Queer Library Is Back For Pride 2022

London Pride 2022 is hotting up

While London Pride is set to be the biggest celebration in years as the capital celebrates its 50th anniversary of the gay rights movement, Aesop’s mini pop-up is just one of many ways of celebrating all things LGBTQIA+ in the city this year. Beauty brand Aesop is dedicating its Soho London shop to amplifying queer voices and stories with their Queer Library, popping up from 28 June to 5 July. They will be swapping beauty products for books by LGBTQIA+ authors and allies on their shelves, and all for free…

The Aesop Queer Library is founded on a belief in the transformative power of queer storytelling and its ability to broaden minds, embolden individuals and unite the community and its allies. To mark 50 years of Pride marches in the UK, the shelves will host 50 titles by LGBTQIA+ authors, spanning genres and generations, with a selection of books bought from London’s Gay’s The Word bookstore, a cornerstone for the queer community since 1979. Additional books for the library have been donated by Penguin Random House.

The curation was guided by the recommendations of Aesop’s bibliophiles and visitors will be able to collect a complimentary book of their choice, with no purchase necessary. The library will reveal how queer literature has evolved to reflect the diversity within the community.

Not In London?

Aesop’s Queer Libraries are also set to appear in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Berlin, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Taipei later this year. Stores will also play host to thought-provoking discussions and specially commissioned artworks by LGBTQIA+ artists.

Furthermore, over on aesop.com, Paul Mendez, Sharan Dhaliwal and Travis Alabanza will share their thoughts on queer representation through author interviews, and illustrations by queer artist Hayley Wall will be showcased both digitally and in-store.

City guides featuring recommendations of LGBTQIA+ spaces and experiences in each city will also be available both online and in-store.
