Filming is officially underway
Series 14 wrapped up in March, and we’re already dreaming of Call the Midwife series 15, which will kick off, as always, with a Christmas special at the end of the year. This will herald an eight-part return to Poplar and the lives of our beloved midwives in January 2026. With filming officially underway, here’s everything you need to know.

What Will Happen?
Call the Midwife series 15 will begin with a two-part Christmas special, and this time we’re going international. Senior members of Nonnatus House head to Hong Kong on a mercy mission, while the younger midwives are left to cope alone – with the action spanning the sun-drenched Far East and the snowy East End. Sister Julianne (Jenny Agutter), ever-resistant to change, finally decides to embrace it.
And this embracing of change, approaching it with love, is woven through series 15. It’s 1971, and women’s liberation is the rule of the day, with ladies burning their bras outside Nonnatus House. As the year unfolds, cases spanning premature birth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis and slavery unravel.

Release Date
As always, Call the Midwife will return with a Christmas special, followed by an eight-part series in the New Year. For season 15, this means the two-part Christmas special will air on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, followed by the regular episodes airing weekly on Sundays from 3 January 2026. Every episode will air on BBC One, before being available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
Will There Be Series 16?
Yes, Call the Midwife series 16 is on the cards, with the BBC’s all-female team set to return. This includes showrunner Heidi Thomas and executive producers Pippa Harris and Ann Tricklebank.
In other Call the Midwife news, both a prequel series and a film are in the works – so it’s a great time to be a fan.
