Our charity auction is now live
This season, Country & Town House is proud to support Farms for City Children with a special silent auction in aid of their vital work – and the prizes on offer are every bit as inspiring as the cause they support.
From culture-packed VIP experiences and unforgettable nights out in Chelsea, to a one of a kind Champagne Methuselah signed by the next generation of sustainable leaders, this curated auction brings together exceptional experiences with meaningful impact. Every bid placed helps give children and young people the chance to step away from the city and into nature — many for the very first time.
Why We’re Supporting Farms For City Children
Founded in 1976 by Lady Clare and Sir Michael Morpurgo, Farms for City Children exists to give every child – regardless of background – the opportunity to experience the freedom, wonder and confidence that comes from being immersed in the natural world.
Today, many children grow up disconnected from nature and miss out on its emotional, mental, and physical benefits. Almost a third of UK children live in poverty, and nearly one in five never experience the natural environment. For many families, quality outdoor time is out of reach: three-fifths of guardians in financially strained households struggled to afford school trips last year, and nearly half of primary schools have cut spending on trips and enrichment activities.
Farms for City Children addresses this inequality by offering children and young people aged eight to 19 the chance to experience the transformative power of nature through immersive week-long residentials focused on food, farming, and outdoor learning. Since 1976, more than 105,000 young people have taken part in residentials at our heritage farms in Devon, Pembrokeshire and Gloucestershire.
Nature connection and outdoor learning are proven to boost wellbeing, confidence, social skills and engagement with learning. Each five-day stay is immersive, structured and deeply nurturing. Children don’t just observe farm life: they become farmers for a week. They tend livestock, plant, harvest, and cook food, learning about the field-to-fork journey. They also take part in activities that develop a lifelong sense of environmental stewardship, including biodiversity walks, beekeeping, bird watching and habitat exploration.
These experiences liberate imaginations, build resilience and strengthen connections with peers and teachers. They encourage children to reduce reliance on technology and enjoy fresh air, physical activity and time outdoors, creating memories that last a lifetime. Ultimately, each week nurtures young people to leave us curious, courageous and compassionate, with a lifelong appreciation for nature and the world around them.
