Cute animals, rolling hills and drama galore: there’s a lot to love about Britain’s farming TV shows. Here are five of our favourites.
Clarkson’s Farm
Love him or hate him, you can’t deny motoring stalwart Jeremy Clarkson has carved out a lovely new niche for himself. The result is the surprisingly comforting Clarkson’s Farm, which traces the trials and tribulations of a TV star navigating the undulating land of farming. With four seasons under its belt and a sixth on its way, the series traces everything from pub openings to battles with the local council to, of course, day-to-day farming life, and has made a celebrity out of previously unknown star Kaleb Cooper as well as Clarkson’s charming (now former) other half, Lisa Hogan. Our Farm Next Door
Amanda Owen returned to our screens with a bang last year, inviting TV cameras back into her life as she embarked on a new project on Ravenseat Farm. While her original series, Our Yorkshire Farm, is all about farming, Our Farm Next Door has the added element of DIY: the series chronicles the Owen family’s work renovating a dilapidated farm house on their land. With two seasons to stream – and, we imagine, more on the horizon – it’s the perfect watch for farming TV lovers. Channel 4
Our Yorkshire Farm
For some original Amanda Owen goodness, flashback to 2018 and tune into Our Yorkshire Farm. Here we meet Clive and Amanda Owen – the latter best known by her alter ego, The Yorkshire Shepherdess – living on Ravenseat Farm in Yorkshire along with their nine children. Expect to see a resilient family binding together to tackle everything from squabbles to lambing seasons, with each episode backdropped by the rolling hills of God’s own country. Channel 5
Fletchers’ Family Farm
For another TV-star-turned-farmer, tune into Fletchers’ Family Farm, which stars Emmerdale alum Kelvin Fletcher, his wife Liz and their children as they settle into farm life after a comfortable life in Oldham. ‘My favourite part of the farm is seeing the kids getting stuck in. Farm Rebellion
Is regenerative farming the key to saving the planet? Munich-born Benedikt Bösel and his chef and author wife Tess Ward certainly think so. They’re the stars of Farm Rebellion, a Disney+ series delving into the rise of regenerative agriculture, backdropped by Benedikt and Tess’ farm in the German countryside, where they live with their two young children. This Farming Life
If it is the grit and labour of the actual farming that you enjoy watching, check out the BBC’s long-running docuseries This Farming Life, which follows several farming and crofting families working across the beautiful (and often very remote) Scottish countryside. Springtime On The Farm
In case it isn’t immediately clear, Channel 5’s Springtime on the Farm is all about the busiest time of the year for farmers: lambing season. Millions of farm animals are born every spring (not just lambs), and Springtime on the Farm shines a spotlight on the hardworking farmers who haul them into the world with their bare hands. It has been running since 2018 and calls Yorkshire’s Cannon Hall Farm home, wit Helen Skelton, JB Gill and Jules Hudson the regular presenters. Channel 5
