Apple TV’s hit sci-fi series Invasion is back for a third season, taking us back into the lives of civilians Aneesha (Golshifteh Farahani), Trevante (Shamier Anderson), Mitsuki (Shioli Kutsuna), Caspar (Billy Barratt) and more as the titular alien invasion continues to alter the course of lives across the planet. But this season our attention is trained on Jamila Huston, who star India Brown describes as ‘a force to be reckoned with’, with ‘an emotional rollercoaster’ set to sway her arc in season 3. With the third episode of Invasion season 3 streaming now and new episodes landing weekly, we caught up with India to find out more.
Interview: India Brown On Invasion, Apple TV
Hi India, how’s life going at the moment?
Hi! Life has been great, thank you.
You can currently be seen in the third season of Invasion, reprising your role as Jamila. First, can you give us an elevator pitch for the show?
Invasion is a character-driven sci-fi drama series that follows an alien invasion through multiple perspectives around the world. I can officially say that if season 1 was an introduction to our world and season 2 was the storm, season 3 is a hurricane!

What else can we expect from season 3?
Audiences can expect familiar faces, more action, more adventure, new characters, new threats, higher risk and a whole load of aliens, old and new.
What is Jamila’s journey like in season 3?
Jamila’s journey this season is an emotional rollercoaster. Although she has battles to face, she really steps into her own and reflects the human embodiment of true selflessness in the face of saving humanity.
How would you describe Jamila? What is it like playing her, and how does it feel to return to the role?
Jamila is a force to be reckoned with. She is headstrong, unapologetically herself and always stands up for what is right. She is thoughtful, determined and selfless. As an actor, to be able to play a character with such complexity has been a dream, and returning to the role this season has been really exciting.
How do you get into character on set?
For me it starts in the morning. I enjoy taking my time in hair, make up and costume to establish Jamila’s mindset for the day.
Did you do anything special to prepare for the role?
I’ve been with this character for five years now, so playing Jamila is like slipping on my favourite pair of old boots. It’s familiar but the challenge is exploring the new journey she embarks on every season.
Any standout moments from rehearsals or filming?
So many, but I don’t want to spoil anything just yet!
What is the cast dynamic like on set?
We are a family. It’s really nice to be able to creatively work in a space that feels really supportive too.

You’ve also got Honey Bunch coming up, in which you star opposite Jason Isaacs. What can you tell us about that?
Honey Bunch is a romantic psychological thriller set in the 70s that deals with the themes of loss, love and devotion, battling with the concept of how far you would go for the people that you love. Jason plays my father, and we come into the storyline, adding a new relationship to the mix.
Any highlights from making the film?
On my wrap day I was filming in a swimming pool with Jason. After one of my directors, Madeleine Sims Fewer, said the kindest wrap speech I’ve ever heard, most of the crew jumped into the pool, and I had a very fun last day.
What has been your favourite project to date?
I can’t choose a favourite! Every role I’ve ever had and every world I’ve ever stepped into has impacted the next. Without Hetty Feather and Silent Witness there would never be The Midnight Gang or Worzel Gummidge. Without Worzel Gummidge there would never be That Christmas and without Invasion, there wouldn’t be Sherbet or Honey Bunch. For me, it’s like the circle of life; every experience impacts the next.
Any roles in the pipeline that you’re excited about? (If you’re allowed to tell us!)
I’m so excited about what’s happening now. I enjoy being in the present. Everything after is a gift.
You’ve been acting since you were very young – what has it been like to grow up performing?
It’s been amazing. I’ve always loved performing; I’ve never not loved doing it and I acknowledge that I’m fortunate to still be able to do what I love.
Who has been your favourite actor to work with?
There’s so many to choose from, I can’t just pick one!
Which co-star did you learn the most from?
I’m so grateful that for over 10 years of working in this industry I’ve been inspired and learnt from so many different co-stars. However, working with Mackenzie Crook in Worzel Gummidge and seeing him work with such humility and grace as the writer, producer, director and Worzel himself was really inspiring to me.

What’s your dream role?
I would love to be a superhero who can do martial arts, or a Lara Croft type of character.
What is a genre you’d like to do more of?
I would love to do more suspense thrillers and sci-fi. The horror space intrigues me, but then again, a romantic comedy is up there too. You know what? I say why put yourself in a box when you can try it all!
Who is an actor, writer or director you’d love to work with?
I think Tom Cruise is an incredible actor and to work with him is an absolute dream of mine.
How do you find balance in your personal and work lives?
I turn my phone off, have no internet interaction and pursue the activities I enjoy doing.
If you could give advice to your 15-year-old self, what would it be?
A great piece of advice from my mum that she has always said to me: There is nothing you can’t achieve if you set your mind to it and give it all the passion and commitment that your dreams deserve.
How can we all live a little bit better?
By being kinder to one another! Kindness isn’t an expense, it’s free.
Anything fun in the pipeline – professionally or personally?
I guess you’ll have to wait and see…
