Loved Poor Things? Yorgos Lanthimos & Emma Stone Are Back With A New Film

After Poor Things scooped up some of the most prestigious awards at the Oscars, Golden Globes and the BAFTAs this year, it’s safe to say that director Yorgos Lanthimos and leading actress Emma Stone — not to mention her co-stars Margaret Qualley and Willem Dafoe — make a great team. It’s brilliant news for fans, then, that they’ll all be reuniting for a brand new film: Kinds of Kindness. Better still, it’ll be released this year. Here’s everything you need to know.

Kinds Of Kindness: Everything We Know So Far

It’s official: the stars of Poor Things are back with another movie directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Set to arrive this summer, Kinds of Kindness is an anthology film with a screenplay co-written by Lanthimos with Efthimis Filippou. The pair previously worked together on The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth, while Lanthimos is also known for directing The Favourite, which also starred Emma Stone. This is, in fact, Lanthimos’ third film in a row with Stone in a leading role.

What Is Kinds Of Kindness About?

According to Searchlight Pictures, Kinds of Kindness is ‘a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.’

The film, then, is an anthology of different stories. At the Golden Globes, Lanthimos himself described it as ‘three contemporary stories’ with ‘a core of actors – seven total – who play one character in each story.’

According to Variety, Kinds of Kindness was shot in New Orleans at the end of 2022, and it was initially titled And.
