Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon To Star In New Wedding Comedy

Hot off the heels of one of the most talked about films of the year, The Idea Of You, Prime Video is back with news of another buzzy movie. The platform has dropped a trailer for You’re Cordially Invited, a wedding disaster film starring two big names: comedy legend Will Ferrell and rom com queen Reese Witherspoon.

What Is You’re Cordially Invited About?

The film plays out every bride’s nightmare: finding out your venue is double-booked. Ferrell, who plays a young bride’s father, discovers the idyllic resort booked for his daughter’s destination wedding has also been booked by another party, led by a feisty wedding planner (Witherspoon). Chaos ensues, with both sides prepared to go to any length to win – think a modern-day Bride Wars.

The synopsis for the film reads: ‘A woman (Witherspoon) planning her sister’s perfect wedding and the father (Ferrell) of a young bride-to-be find out that they are double booked for their destination wedding at a remote resort on an island off the Georgia coast. When both parties decide to share the small venue, chaos ensues and disaster awaits.’

Writer and director Nicholas Stoller is at the helm – the name behind classic comedies including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him To The Greek and The Five-Year Engagement, as well as recent Apple TV+ series Platonic.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stoller spoke about his love for creating these kinds of timeless movies.‘They last forever,’ he said. ‘If it’s a romantic movie or a comedy, people tend to watch them over and over again because they really see themselves in them.’

Who Stars In The Cast?

As well as being the lead cast members, Ferrell and Witherspoon are both producers on the project. Ferrell has starred in an endless string of comedies over the years, from Anchorman to Step Brothers to Elf – but most recently, he starred in road trip documentary movie Will & Harper. Ritherspoon’s latest credits include Apple TV+’s The Morning Show and Netflix’s Your Place or Mine, and she has just revealed a Legally Blonde prequel is also in the works.
