The capital's starry newbies

A whole host of chefs across the capital will have a spring in their step today following last night’s Michelin awards ceremony, which took place in Dublin. It was another strong year for London, with nine restaurants securing their first Michelin star and two spots landing two-star status – though none joined the prestigious three-star club.

New Restaurants With One Michelin Star

Corenucopia

Clare Smyth’s Notting Hill hotspot Core secured two Michelin stars within just a year of opening – with a third to follow in 2020. So it’s no surprise her latest launch, Chelsea bistro Corenucopia, has scooped up a star a few months since launch. In comparison to Core, it offers a more relaxed dining experience but with the same finesse, precision and focus on British produce. A meal here might include snacks of fried chicken and caviar, Isle of Harris scallop, and a signature elevated fish and chips made with Dover sole and lobster mousse. The dedicated potato menu, meanwhile, offers guests an array of everything from hasselback to dauphinoise and croquettes.

Gordon Ramsay restaurant at 22 Bishopsgate

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High

As Europe’s highest restaurant, Gordon Ramsay’s chef’s table experience at 22 Bishopsgate is unsurprisingly known for its unparalleled skyline views. But its new Michelin star has given it extra culinary kudos. With just 12 seats, it’s an intimate affair serving a surprise tasting menu cooked by James Goodyear and his team – expect theatre and luxurious ingredients (albeit for £250pp).

Chef's table at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair

Somssi by Jihun Kim

Another prestigious chef’s table to secure a star this year is Somssi, Jihun Kim’s restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. With 14 seats and just one 7pm seating per day (plus a lunch option on Saturdays), it’s an exclusive experience featuring a fine dining Korean-inspired menu. ‘When dining at Somssi, don’t expect Korean food like you’ve had before – the unique, pungent, fermented notes are all there, but they will find their way onto your palate in the most unassuming ways,’ said C&TH’s Ina Yulo Stuve after visiting recently.

The Kerfield Arms

This cosy Camberwell gastropub from the team behind The Baring in Islington has been widely lauded since opening last year. Stripped-back interiors allow the food to be the focus, with a menu of British pub classics with twists: think beef, guinness and oyster pie with cavolo nero, and Rhug Estate venison with walnut ketchup, plus a standout roast on Sundays.

Lambombe by Trivet

Chef Jonny Lake and sommelier Isa Bal, the duo behind the two Michelin-starred Bermondsey restaurant Trivet, opened a new venture last year, Labombe. Set within the five-star COMO Metropolitan London, the eatery offers a more relaxed dining experience than its sibling, focusing on wine and European-style plates, with Fat Duck alumni Evan Moore heading up the kitchen. Begin with bottarga toast and gurnard crudo with orange ponzu ahead of larger dishes like grilled monkfish with braised coco beans, Iberico chops and steaks.

Ambassadors Clubhouse

Ambassadors Clubhouse

This Mayfair hotspot from the team behind Gymkhana and Brigadiers is all about glitzy Indian fine dining, with a focus on Punjabi cuisine. With opulent interiors inspired by the early 20th century Indian and Pakistani mansions, it’s quite the feast for the eyes (gold tables, mirrored walls and sparkling chandeliers are paired with patterned carpets and faux animal skins). But thankfully all this opulence is more than matched by the menu, which includes starters of papads and chaat ahead of kebabs, matka (slow-cooked dishes), wok-cooked curries and smoky meats made with authentic regional techniques.

Tom Brown at The Capital

Cornish-born chef Tom Brown rose to fame at the Michelin-starred Cornerstone in Hackney. But now his focus is a small, now Michelin-starred restaurant within Knightsbridge hotel The Capital, which serves a seafood-heavy tasting menu. At dinner this can feature as many as 12 courses, with a focus on utilising lesser-known cuts and using every part of the fish to avoid waste.

Plates of Spanish food at Legado

Legado

Chef Nieves Barragán earned her stripes at Spanish eatery Barrafina before opening Sabor in Mayfair, which later secured a Michelin star. And her latest launch, Legado in Shoreditch, has been another hit, winning its first star in less than a year. The restaurant is all about showcasing the lesser known dishes enjoyed across Spain, from the Basque country to Mallorca, with ingredients taking centre stage and a focus on whole animal butchery.

Michael Caines at The Stafford

Another new hotel restaurant to land its first Michelin star is Michael Caines’ outpost at The Stafford – the chef’s first residency in London. Seasonal British produce takes centre stage in this sophisticated dining room, with the current menu including the likes of warm lobster salad, pan roasted Brixham turbot with Oscietra caviar, and Stoke Marsh Farm Hereford beef with celeriac puree.

New Restaurants With Two Michelin Stars

Bonheur by Matt Abé

One of the most anticipated openings of 2025 was Bonheur, the Gordon Ramsay-backed debut from Matt Abé which took over the site of Michel Roux’s legendary Le Gavroche. C&TH’s Tessa Dunthorne was one of the first in back in November, and was impressed by the precision of dishes: barbecued scallops seared for 12 minutes and finely dusted with yuzu powder, for instance. Guests can choose between three menus (à la carte and two tasting – five and seven courses respectively), with slick service throughout. This is a rare example of a new opening flying straight to two-star status.

Row on 5

Spencer Metzger (former head chef of The Ritz) and Jason Atherton’s Saville Row restaurant went from one to two stars in the 2026 Michelin guide. One to work up an appetite for: the theatrical, experiential spot serves a 15-course tasting menu divided into three ‘acts’ across three venues. The meal begins with snacks and drinks in the bar ahead of mains in the restaurant before returning to the bar for petits fours – with a menu presented in a wax-sealed envelope which guests can choose whether to read before or wait until afterwards for an extra element of surprise.
