The Pheasant Hotel
 – Harome, North Yorkshire

The North

Overlooking the village pond, The Pheasant ingeniously combines a forge, shop and several barns in a single building with oak beams and stacks of character. Co-owner, Jacquie Pern has decorated the interior with flair using calm, natural colours. In winter the country-style sitting room has a cosy fire, and leading off it a lovely stone-flagged vine-shaded terrace comes into its own in summer. The 16 bedrooms are equally restful and luxurious in an understated way. There are 12 in the main building and two family and dog friendly ‘homes from home’ in the courtyard, plus Plum Cottage, a romantic retreat, and the luxurious duplex Pheasant Suite. There’s even a small indoor heated pool. The hotel’s other owner is Peter Neville, whose local, seasonal cooking is sensational, with dishes that reflect his interest in foraged foods and fresh, vibrant flavours. Standards are high, whether you sample the relaxed bar menu, afternoon tea or the seasonal seven-course tasting menu at dinner. As for breakfast, you will not find better, anywhere.

SEE

The Pheasant Hotel, situated in the picturesque village of Harome, at the edge of the North York Moors, is perfectly located a stone’s throw away from the local market towns of Helmsley, Pickering and Malton and is less than a 40 minutes drive from the stunning North Yorkshire coast.

EAT

Chef Patron Peter Neville has been at the helm for 10 years and his motto of “less is more” is evident throughout the diverse menus on offer. Guests can experience a range of dining choices, from fine-dining from the 7 course Tasting Menu in the restaurant, to the relaxed Bar & Grill menu on the terrace. All his dishes use the best seasonal produce and anything that cannot be found in the Kitchen Garden is instead sourced from local suppliers.

BUY

Nota Bene

Originally converted from what was once a blacksmith’s shop, village shop and barns, the Pheasant has 16 rooms all stylishly and individually designed with a keen eye by co-owner Jacquie Pern.
