With previous collaborations with the Andy Warhol foundation, the Van Gogh museum, Diesel and Missoni already under their belt, Bugaboo are the go-to brand for art and fashion-loving parents. Their latest collaboration is with French graphic designer and fine artist Niark1, entitled ‘Monsters on the Move’. We went to Paris for the launch of the latest line, and to find out why artist Niark1 is having a moment in the music and design world.

Niark1

Sebastien Feraut AKA Niark1, is a French illustrator, graphic designer and fine artist based in Paris. Now a household name in the underground graphics scene, his surreal & psychedelic illustration art is instantly recognisable, with recent commissions including campaigns for Converse and Malibu and collaborations with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Iggy Pop in the music world. For his latest project he’s created some new monster characters for a playful partnership with Bugaboo.

‘Typically, I like working on my designs on a computer, though I do draw and paint quite a lot as well. It depends on the project. I do a lot of sketches, though more for inspiration than preparation. I mainly sketch to find new ideas and to test shapes, etc. This helps me keep the spontaneous side of the creation. I tend to work on several projects at once and always keep a personal project going as well. This allows me to find ideas and not to remain “stuck” on something specific. I like to start from scratch and just launch shapes that I explore until something a little more specific begins to take shape.’ – Niark1

Monsters on the Move by Bugaboo

Available for the Bugaboo Cameleon3, Bugaboo Bee5, Bugaboo Donkey and Bugaboo Buffalo, the Monsters on the Move collection will be available for a limited time from this month. On the Tailored Fabric Set, Niark1’s colourful monsters come to life on a contrasting black fabric, with a matching print on the interior, sure to keep little ones fascinated with exciting colours and shapes. We particularly love the petrol blue Breezy Sun Canopy, featuring a gang of summer-ready monsters. While the special edition designs are available for a limited time on new Bugaboo strollers, you can also refresh your current model with the sun canape.

‘I have a distinctive graphic design style, which can be seen fairly regularly in my work, but I always make sure my project collaborations are unique. I created these special characters just for Bugaboo, but they are still recognizable as part of my aesthetic and larger family of characters.’ – Niark1

The brand’s line of successful collaborations began in 2003 when they partnered with Dutch fashion graduate Bas Kosters. ‘The thing I love about our special editions is that they are so us. It’s a chance to experiment and the opposite of playing safe. Parents really appreciate this creative approach. It creates a lot of positive energy,’ says Madeleen Klaasen, Chief Marketing Officer of Bugaboo. ‘We’ve worked with carefully selected partners from the fashion house Missoni to the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, always giving parents new ways to express their style.’ Other highlights include the Van Gogh museum partnership and last year’s Diesel team-up.
