Harrogate’s Ashville College pupils started World Book Day by attending an online assembly led by War Horse author Sir Michael Morpurgo.

Pupils came into school dressed as their favourite literary characters. There was also the opportunity for ‘buddy reading’ sessions.
Ahead of World Book Day, Ashville Prep School had been running a ‘Read for Good’ Readathon fundraiser, to raise money for books to children in hospital, as well as books for their school.

Every pupil was also given the chance to choose a free World Book Day book.
Rhiannon Wilkinson, Head of Ashville College, said: ‘World Book Day is a diary date enjoyed by pupils and staff alike, and it’s been heartening to see that activities haven’t just been limited to the one day.’
