Curriculum

The curriculum is carefully planned to ensure pupils experience a broad range of subjects, promoting academic excellence while developing a true love of learning. Staff encourage and create opportunities for all pupils to find their passions. Emotional wellbeing and resilience is actively supported through the school’s daily meditative practice, The Pause, a period of quiet reflection and stillness. This allows pupils to join the present moment, refocus and digest the fruits of their learning. Each year, nearly 50 percent of A level pupils achieve A*-A grades.

Sport & The Arts

St James nurtures a spark of sporting enthusiasm in each pupil with a wide range of sports, from team to individual activities. The school hosts several whole-school drama and music events as well as art shows and sales to support its pool of artists.

Pastoral Care

Caring for the emotional health of pupils at an individual level is a fundamental part of the St James ethos, and personal development is embedded within its educational approach. Teachers work to support all pupils, helping them discover their particular interests, strengths and qualities, and provide the necessary tools to develop self-confidence. The school’s pastoral care is structured to equip pupils with strategies to support positive mental health and nurture emotional resilience.

Exit Destinations

Each year,  over 90 percent of leavers gain a place at their first choice university.
