Curriculum

Accredited a World Class High Performance Learning School in 2026, SJB pairs small classes with real ambition. French starts in year one, Spanish in year three and Latin in year six, with public speaking from reception. The Upper school adds coding and robotics, and specialist teaching from year six prepares pupils for the ISEB Pre-Test and Common Entrance at 13+. In 2026, pupils reached the 2026 Quiz Club National Mathematics Championships finals at the University of Oxford.

Sport & The Arts

Pupils play rugby, football, netball, hockey, cricket and tennis, plus golf, judo, athletics and weekly swimming in the 25m pool. The sports centre has a climbing wall and floodlit courts. Partnerships with Brentford FC and Harlequins bring elite-level coaching, with selections for the prep school Lions team. SJB prep pupils are IAPS national judo champions (2025 and 2026). Arts thrive through choirs, orchestras and productions, including a partnership with Lyric Hammersmith and the Schola Cantorum programme, led by Dr Andrew Lumsden. Many pupils are grade six to eight musicians and achieve 90 percent LAMDA distinctions.

Pastoral Care

Rooted in a Jesuit heritage and belief of cura personalis (‘care for the whole person’), every child is known and valued. Tutors, an independent listener, a school counsellor and the chaplaincy support pupils, alongside emotional literacy lessons, regular wellbeing surveys, mental health week and anti-bullying week. SJB’s animal-themed houses (Tigers, Yaks and Emus) build belonging across year groups, while full and flexible boarding gives boys and girls a warm home from home.

Exit Destinations

Over 50 percent of leavers each year win places at Eton, Harrow, Winchester and Wellington College, and over a third earn scholarships in academics, art, drama, music or sport.

Head’s Philosophy

To help every child become confident yet humble, ambitious yet compassionate. Academic ambition matters, but so do character, happiness and a childhood well lived. I want pupils to think independently, care for others and be known as individuals, built on a close partnership between school and home.
