The Curriculum

The curriculum is unusually broad and deep for a school of 200 pupils. It is designed to stretch the most able whilst being accessible to those who may be more creative than academic. Genuinely small classes and strong staff retention create a unique and bespoke environment. At GCSE, alongside the core subjects, pupils make choices from further maths, separate sciences, languages, humanities and the arts. Many progress onto A level, where they benefit from a highly personalised approach to subject choice.

Sport & The Arts

Thames has a strong offering in the creative arts including drama, music, art, 3D design and fashion and textiles. Excellent purpose built facilities and teachers who are specialist practitioners, enable students to explore opportunities and expand their understanding. The sports programme develops problem solving, proactivity, resilience, communication and teamwork, through PE, games lessons and sports fixtures. The school makes use of excellent local sports facilities, including 4G pitches and indoor sports halls. Scholarships in art, performing arts, sport and music mean scholars play a full part in school life: as well as mentoring younger pupils, they perform at events, expressing their creativity through choreography and compositions.

Pastoral Care

The school’s ethos is deeply relational and rooted in Christian values with mutual respect and self-responsibility at its heart. In an environment of trust, pupils learn to listen to and learn from one another. A wellbeing programme places a strong emphasis on personal development, forming healthy relationships and constructive engagement in society. Values of compassion and respect promote gratitude and soft skills that are vital for success in life. Staff support each pupil, challenging them to do their best.

Head Teacher’s Philosophy

To offer an artisanal education, carefully crafted for each individual. Our focus is on much more than just academics: we nurture each child’s talents and help them find their inherent purpose. Our children grow into outstanding young people, achieving their best and ready to thrive as young adults.
