The Curriculum
Core curriculum includes sciences, English, modern foreign languages (including Mandarin) and mathematics. At GCSE, girls choose from 15 optional subjects in addition to compulsory ones. Thirty two subjects are offered in the sixth form. Life Skills is taught throughout the School and all pupils have iPads.
Games & The Arts
RMS has a reputation for excellence in sport and has a well-equipped sports centre and indoor pool. Teams regularly compete at regional and national level in many sports, including hockey, gymnastics and swimming. Fundraising is underway for a dedicated performing arts faculty building (opening September 2018). Visual Arts are strong, with girls achieving the highest grades in public examinations.
Pastoral Care
Excellent pastoral care is central to RMS’s ethos; each pupil is supported by a network of adults and peers to ensure that her time with us is as happy as it is successful. Staff have great knowledge of pupils as individuals, ensuring they are able to respond in flexible, nuanced ways to a student’s needs. The RMS culture promotes balance, self-esteem and confidence, and recognises and harnesses its pupils’ potential.
University Places
Around 90 per cent of RMS students gain places at their first choice of university each year.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
Ours is a values-driven school, which places weight on integrity, responsibility, empathy and the courage to challenge oneself. The school is determined to develop the academic, personal and creative potential of every pupil. Our learning culture is focused on process over endpoint; if the former is in place, the latter looks after itself.
Outstanding Characteristics
Few schools possess such a strong ethos that is lived and breathed throughout the School. We are a broad, values-driven school, not a hothouse, and our focus is on developing individuals, on a rounded education that prepares girls for life, and on a commitment to self-improvement . Our value-added results are the envy of more than nine out of ten schools, and our examination success is linked to our healthy school culture.
