Race Day Essentials: What To Wear To Qatar Goodwood Festival 2025

Race your way to a winning outfit with the Goodwood races style guide, created in collaboration with Phase Eight

Social season is in full swing, and the next horseracing highlight on the calendar comes courtesy of Goodwood Racecourse. Returning to West Sussex for five days this summer, the event showcases the best in British flat racing, with several races held each day. Thinking about trotting over to the festival yourself? You’ll need to look the part. We’ve teamed up with official womenswear race day partner, Phase Eight, to bring you the ultimate guide for what to wear to Qatar Goodwood Festival 2025.

What Is Qatar Goodwood Festival?

A highlight on the British racing calendar, Qatar Goodwood Festival (affectionately known as Glorious Goodwood) is a world-famous horse racing event. Taking place over five days at Goodwood, an English estate in Chichester, it brings together sporting stars and horseracing fans from all over the UK – and beyond.

When Is It?

In 2025, Qatar Goodwood Festival takes place from Tuesday 29 July until Saturday 2 August.

Is There A Dress Code?

There are three enclosures at Goodwood Racecourse – and each one has its own dress code:

The Richmond Enclosure

If you want to dress up for the races, this is the enclosure you’ll want to be seen in. The Richmond Enclosure hosts the most formal dress code, requiring men, women and children to wear smart attire. This means you’ll need a sophisticated dress or an elegant top and trousers (or matching skirt). Note that sportswear and fancy dress are not permitted.

The Gordon Enclosure

You don’t need to dress as formally for the Gordon Enclosure, but it’s still expected that attendees dress a little smarter than usual. A chic, tailored co-ord goes a long way here (especially if you don’t fancy wearing a dress).

The Lennox Enclosure

The least formal of all the enclosures, the family-friendly Lennox Enclosure adopts a more relaxed look – with no formal dress code in sight. Smart casual is a popular choice here – think linen dresses, sandals and basket bags – although guests are more than welcome to go down the dressier route.

Regardless of your choice of enclosure, be warned: Goodwood Festival is an open air event nestled in parkland. So, to avoid any clashes with the British weather, make sure to take a waterproof layer that will protect you and your outfit.
