The salons have spoken: these are the hair trends to look out for this autumn
Feel the salon calling this season? Then make sure to get one of these chic hair cuts and styles, which the experts say are set to be major trends for autumn 2025. Here’s the lowdown.
All The Major Hair Trends For Autumn 2025
‘This season, we can expect to see a return to styles that feel fresh, natural and easy to wear,’ Neale Rodger, Style Director at STIL Salon. ‘Bobs will continue to be a go-to choice – either cultivated or lobs which are perfect for transitioning into autumn. Lived-in texture will also be a key direction with shag styles back at the forefront. The 90s will remain a big inspiration for longer, layered looks – and on the other end of the scale, ultra short pixies and micro fringes will also be popular.’
Below, more salon experts weigh in on their top hair trends for autumn 2025.
Top Trends At A Glance
- Cultivated Bob
- 90s Layers
- Airy Shag
- Textured Pixie
- Polished Crop
- Natural Curls
- Soft Curtain Fringe
- Rodeo Bob
- Halo Fringe
- Power Pony
1. Cultivated Bob
Need a hairstyling break post-summer? Then you’ll want a low-maintenance, cultivated bob. ‘After seasons of extreme styling and experimental shapes and textures, people want something reliable, flattering, and easy,’ notes Neale. ‘Bobs (and lobs) are versatile, and great for transitional weather when you want something fresh but not drastic. They also work well with fall fashion: collars, scarves and jackets.’
As for the cut itself: ‘Think a classic bob cut without over-styling. The key here is clean lines, maybe with some soft layers or face-framing pieces. Not overly textured, more sleek or gently waved rather than wildly tousled.’

2. 90s Layers
But don’t worry, it’s not all about the bobs this season. ‘Length lovers don’t have to chop it off,’ confirms Neale, who forecasts a revival of 90s layers. ‘This look gives a fresh shape, helps disguise damage and gives life to hair that’s been beaten by the sun and salt over the summer months. Plus layers are perfect for creating drama with less effort; you just need a bit of blow-dry, and a wave here and there.’
He explains that the look itself consists of ‘long hair with graceful layering starting lower down (chin to chest area). These layers aren’t harsh, but give movement, bounce, and shape without sacrificing lots of length. This is a throwback to 90s supermodel vibes with soft volume.’

3. Airy Shag
Guess who’s back? Shag is back, back again – and this time, it’s soft and airy. ‘This autumn look is all about soft, lived-in texture with layered shagginess – sometimes a mix of lengths, and maybe with a fringe or face-framing pieces,’ explains Neale. ‘It’s not extreme but definitely relaxed. Think airy textures that let the natural curl or wave shine.’

4. Textured Pixie
‘We are also seeing a lot of very short hair at the moment,’ adds Neale. ‘Think pixies, sometimes with micro-fringes, styled bold and slightly tousled. These shorter looks feature more exposed cheekbones, ears, neck, so styling is about texture, colour, and how you frame your face.
‘Short styles are very liberating and low-maintenance,’ he continues. ‘After long summer styles, many want change, and pixies deliver impact. Also, they pair well with fall accessories such as earrings and scarves, and are great for the colder weather because less hair gets in the way.’

5. Polished Crop
More polished renditions of the pixie are also proving popular this autumn, notes Areeb Qaiser, a stylist at Blue Tit Streatham. ‘One of the biggest trends I keep seeing is having fun with your hair, whilst making sure it brings out your face even more,’ she says. ‘Teyana Taylor has been wearing her hair short for a while, and I absolutely love how she has fun with the styling. She’s the perfect fit between masc and femme. I can see more of this coming through, along with darker hair colours.’

6. Natural Curls
Loose, lived-in textures will also be a big trend amongst those with longer hair. ‘I’m currently loving Olivia Dean’s hair – especially her slightly brushed-out curls,’ says Areeb. ‘It really makes me want to wear my hair naturally. When you were younger, having “untameable” hair wasn’t seen as something lovely, so being able to reclaim it, in a way, makes it so fulfilling. It’s our way of being able to wear it fluffy the next day without feeling like it needs to be “presentable”. And for autumn it’s perfect – as colour-wise I see a lot of people going back to their natural colour (including me) and wearing their hair in its natural shape. Bed hair for all is back.’

7. Soft Curtain Fringe
The ultimate hair accessory for autumn 2025? A soft, wispy fringe. ‘A soft curtain fringe is such a versatile way to refresh your look for the new season without committing to a full chop,’ agrees Jason Collier, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Studio23. ‘It frames the face beautifully and works on almost every hair length, from bobs to long, layered cuts.
‘The beauty of this fringe is its adaptability,’ he adds. ‘You can style it parted in the middle for that relaxed, autumnal, French-girl vibe, or sweep it to the side for a softer, more blended finish. It’s also incredibly easy to maintain. A quick blow-dry with a round brush or even a light flick with straighteners is all you need to create that soft, face-framing shape. It instantly adds polish to your everyday look while keeping things modern and wearable.’

8. Rodeo Bob
Back to short hair; this bob sits on the wilder side of the salon. ‘Bobs are evolving for autumn/winter 2025 – longer, looser, and more layered than before,’ says Melissa Timperley, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Melissa Salons. ‘The rodeo bob embraces texture and volume. Think airy fluff, a blown-up silhouette, and a little attitude. Sexy, playful, and bold – it’s all about movement.’

9. Halo Fringe
Another standout this season is the halo fringe, says Melissa. ‘This look curves around the face like a halo – creating instant lift, movement and contouring around the face. The appeal is in its effortlessness: it looks just as chic styled smooth as it does with lived-in texture. Universally flattering, endlessly versatile, and designed to frame the face – it’s the fringe set to dominate 2025.’

10. Power Pony
One for the ‘hair up’ girls is the power pony, a sleek ponytail that requires minimal effort and styling. ‘Autumn is here and one hair trend we will see throughout the season is the polished power pony,’ says celebrity hairdresser Jay Birmingham. ‘This is a great style to wear over the colder months, keeping hair slicked back off the face with frizz and flyaways at bay, whilst still looking incredibly chic and sophisticated. Autumn is a great time to give our hair a break from heated styling and embrace hair ups using just a few hair products to add nourishment and shine back into our hair.’
