The daughter of Charles Spencer was dressed by Dolce & Gabbana for her big day

It’s been four years since Lady Kitty Spencer and husband, South African businessman and chairman of Foschini Group, Michael Lewis, tied the knot in the picturesque Italian city of Frascati. And whilst the idyllic location was certainly something to gawk at, all eyes were on Spencer’s exquisite dresses. Yes, dresses plural. It’s not uncommon for brides these days to pick out a ceremony and party look for their big day, but the niece of the late Princess Diana went above and beyond by wearing five gowns in total – all by luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana.
Who Designed Lady Kitty Spencer’s Five Wedding Dresses?
As a global ambassador for Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana, it was only right that the 30-year-old model and aristocrat dressed in the designer for her big day. And it appears that no expense was spared, as Dolce created not one, not two – but five spectacular bespoke dresses for the event.
Spencer shared a first look at her dresses on Instagram shortly after the big day, with multiple posts detailing the design inspirations and behind-the-scenes fittings. ‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart Domenico [Dolce] and Stefano [Gabbana] for creating a gown beyond my wildest dreams for the most important day of my life,’ the model wrote in one caption. ‘There are no words that could ever express my gratitude.’
A Closer Look At The Dresses
Dress 1: The Cinderella Ball Gown (Welcome Dinner)
Spencer’s first bridal moment took place before the big day, at a welcome dinner party at the Galleria Del Cardinal, a beautiful baroque restaurant in Rome. For the occasion, Spencer channelled something blue with a gown she dubbed her ‘Cinderella dress.’ The stunning floral tulle dress was described by Dolce & Gabbana as an ‘illusion baby-blue tulle gown and cape embroidered with cross-stitched flowers’. The perfect attire for a summer celebration.

Dress 2: The Classic Lace Number (Ceremony)
Then there was the star of the show, an ivory lace wedding dress that Spencer wore for her wedding ceremony. Like her cousin-in-law, Kate Middleton, Spencer’s gown took its cues from traditional Victorian bridalwear – and featured an elegant high neck, puff sleeves and bridal buttons. The gown is also noticeably similar to the one donned by her mother, Victoria Aitken, for her wedding to Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, in 1989.

Dress 3: The Garden Dress (Reception)
Following the ceremony, Spencer changed into an outstanding double organza silk gown adorned with flowers and crystals. The florals, hand-painted by artisans at Dolce & Gabbana, were designed to match the nymphaeum at her wedding venue, Villa Aldobrandini.

Dresses 4: The Gold Cocktail Dress (After-Party)
And Spencer’s top choice for partying the night away? A stunning cocktail minidress, fully beaded in sliver and gold.

Dress 5: The Green Mikado Moment (Post-Wedding)
Celebrations continued for a third day, dressing up for the occasion in a breath-taking silk Mikado dress comprised of a wrapped green bodice and flared white skirt, embellished with florals and a ribbon waist tie. (You can catch it in Dolce & Gabbana’s behind-the-scenes video, below.)

Why Did Kitty Spencer Not Wear The Family Tiara?
Her wedding dresses might have been the star of the show, but fans of the royal family will have noticed one key item missing from Lady Kitty Spencer’s bridal ensemble: the Spencer family tiara. The diamond-encrusted tiara was reportedly created in the 1930s and given as a wedding gift to Lady Cynthia Hamilton, who then passed it down to her granddaughter (and the tiara’s most famous wearer) Lady Diana Spencer. The late Princess of Wales went on to wear it for her own nuptials to Prince Charles.
Many other members of the Spencer family also wore the tiara on their big day – including Princess Diana’s mother and her sisters, Lady Sarah Spencer and Lady Jane Spencer, as well as Kitty Spencer’s own mother.
While it hasn’t been revealed why she chose not to wear it – rumours speculate it might have something to do with memories of her late aunt – Kitty Spencer has since set a trend amongst her other family members, with sister Lady Amelia Spencer forgoing the tiara in 2023. Her other sister, the newly engaged Lady Eliza Spencer, is also predicted to leave the tiara behind on her big day.
