Ask most people about Swiss food and they’ll picture a fondue after a day on the slopes. Alastair Long thinks they’re missing a season. ‘People just like myself always associated Switzerland with certain things,’ says the British chef, founder and executive chef of Kaiseki by Manabu in Vevey on the Swiss Riviera. ‘It was either summer by the lake, skiing in the winter, but people would never necessarily consider autumn.’
For a chef, it’s the season that matters most. ‘Switzerland in autumn for me is unrivalled,’ he says, ‘because here we really see the difference between the seasons.’ Mountain restaurants are still open, game is on the menu and many villages have harvest festivals.
In the third and final film by Country & Town House in partnership with Switzerland Tourism, Alastair takes us from the market to the vineyards above Lake Geneva. Here’s where to eat and drink this season.
