Put the pedal to the metal

Driving shoes are a true classic that has been around since Italian shoemaker Gianni Mostile patented the design in 1963, inspired by the golden age of motoring in Italy.

The Best Driving Shoes for Men & Women

In the 1950s and 60s, the cockpits of sleek and stylish Italian cars – the Ferraris and Alfa Romeos of the era – were narrow and restricted, calling for a lightweight shoe for easy wear. In 1963, motor racing-mad shoemaker Gianni Mostile decided to invent the ultimate driving shoes, made from breathable suede and with rubber soles to prevent the foot from slipping off the pedals. To this day, the style is synonymous with Italian style and glamour. Here are some of our favourite modern iterations of the classic look.
