Is Jeremy Clarkson’s Pub Still Open?

The Farmer's Dog is one of the key plotlines in the latest season of Clarkson's Farm
He has spent the past few years learning the ins and outs of farming, but recently Jeremy Clarkson turned his attention to a new field: the world of pubs. In August 2024, he opened The Farmer’s Dog, a country pub near Burford in the Cotswolds, just down the road from his farm, Diddly Squat. The launch process has been documented in season four of Clarkson’s Farm, with the chaos of opening day set to be shown in the season finale, which drops on 6 June 2025. So has it been a success? And can fans still visit?
Everything You Need To Know About Clarkson’s Pub, The Farmer’s Dog
Last year, Clarkson revealed he paid ‘less than £1 million’ for The Windmill, a pub housed in a 15th century barn near Burford in Oxfordshire, with views of the rolling countryside. Writing in The Sunday Times, Clarkson said: ‘I decided last year that I’d like to buy a pub. So I called everyone I know who has one and they all said the same thing: the pub business is dying. They’re closing at the rate of more than a thousand a year. You would have to be mad to buy one. Insane. So I’ve bought a pub.’ He went on to describe the lengthy process of finding the right venue, writing: ‘after I’d looked at about 14,000, I found just the place. Old, Cotswoldy and sitting in five acres of its own land.’
And what did Clarkson envisage for his new spot? ‘A place where I can go on a Sunday with my granddaughter for some gammon, egg and chips,’ he says. ‘Well-priced, British-grown food with a pint of Hawkstone beer. And a warm fuzzy feeling inside.’
The latest season has depicted the trials and tribulations that come with opening a pub, from staffing to food hygiene to finances. But the biggest hurdle comes in episode seven, titled ‘Hurrying’, when Clarkson gets the dates muddled up and realises the August Bank Holiday weekend, when he planned to open The Farmer’s Dog, is a week earlier than he thought. We’ll see how this pans out in the finale, ‘Landlording’, with snaps from the episode showing Clarkson attempting to hang foliage while customers queue outside.
Is The Farmer’s Dog Still Open?
Despite the struggles Clarkson faced along the way, his vision came together, and the pub remains open today. The Farmer’s Dog is a quintessential Cotswolds pub serving classic British food, using ingredients grown on Diddly Squat as well as local farms. It serves dishes like sausages of the day, steak pie, Wye Valley asparagus with pearl barley, and a roast on Sundays. Drinks-wise, diners can enjoy beer from Clarkson’s own brand, Hawkstone, as well as Lisa’s sparkling wine, Le Pop Fizz, made from grapes grown on the Woodchester Valley Estate nearby. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seats, but if it’s a busy day visitors can also get food from the The Farmer’s Puppy bar, which serves burgers and beer.
This isn’t the first time Clarkson has opened an F&B business. Back in 2022, the Diddly Squat team opened a restaurant within an abandoned lambing barn on the farm, however it was forced to close after a battle with the council.
How To Visit
