It’s official: Disney’s sequel to the 2006 cult and commercial classic film The Devil Wears Prada is on its away. Back in the 00s, the movie smashed the box office, earning $326.7 million worldwide and Meryl Streep a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy – as well as an Oscar nomination. The Devil Wears Prada 2: Plot, Cast, Release Date & More

Often cited as a favourite film, especially among fashion lovers (and, ahem, magazine writers), The Devil Wears Prada is a seminal classic based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name. ‘We just had a joy bomb of a time on that movie,’ Blunt said to Hathaway during the duo’s Actors on Actors with Variety at the end of 2023. ‘I don’t know if any of us knew it was going to become what it did. It’s quoted to me every week. It will be the movie that changed my life.’

Starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and more, a sequel has always been in high demand, but our prayers have never been answered. Until now.

The news coincided with a musical adaptation of the film premiering on London’s West End at the end of 2024, featuring an original score by Elton John and starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly, Georgie Buckland as Andy, Amy Di Bartolomeo as Emily and Matt Henry as Stanley Tucci’s character, Nigel.

With the original film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna back on the books, our core quartet were spotted shooting in and around NYC in summer 2025. Flash forward to February 2026, and the trailer is here…

What Will Happen?

First, videos speak louder than words: you can watch the trailer below.

Runway is not just a magazine. It’s a global icon, a winding road that brings us back together again.’ So says Nigel (Tucci) at the opening of the trailer, setting the scene.

Andy Sachs (Hathaway), heroine of the first film, is back at Runway magazine despite her sour ending there as an assistant to editor Miranda Priestly (Streep) in the 00s. Now Runway‘s new Features Editor, luckily for Andy, Miranda has no memory of her bumbling second assistant, who managed to live out her dreams as a proper journalist in the decades-long interim.

Instead, Miranda’s coveted attention is absorbed by the declining print industry – a tale as old as time. Seeking vital advertising revenue, she finds herself in a head-to-head battle with her former first assistant Emily (Blunt), now a high-powered executive at an LVMH-style luxury group.

This is all scored by snarky jabs from fan-favourite Nigel (Tucci), Runway‘s Art Director, including, ‘Well, look what TJ Maxx dragged in’ at the opening of the trailer.

Is It Based On A Book?

In 2013, author Weisberger published a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada entitled Revenge Wears Prada, set a decade after the events of the first book – but the film has clearly diverged.

In Revenge, Andy is the editor for a bridal magazine called The Plunge, which she launched with former nemesis, Miranda’s first assistant Emily Charlton. As Andy plans her own wedding, she remains haunted by her short but impactful experience working for Miranda Priestly – until the two meet again. The Plunge is doing so well that it attracts the interest of Elias-Clarke, the publishing company that owns Runway. Enter Miranda, who begins courting Andy and Emily – a total contrast to her poor treatment of the duo 10 years ago – in an attempt to persuade them to sell the magazine to Elias-Clarke.

As for the truth underpinning the whole franchise, it is widely acknowledged that Miranda Priestly is supposed to be Anna Wintour and The Devil Wears Prada encapsulates author Lauren Weisberger’s experience working at Vogue for 10 months in the ‘90s. Whether this is a true or accurate portrayal of her time at the magazine is another matter.
