Go off-grid at this dreamy Cornish nature escape

It’s not just The White Lotus’ guests who are being asked to hand in their phones: offline travel is one of the biggest wellness trends of the moment. Let’s face it, the majority of us waste too much time scrolling, with the average person spending a day on their devices each week, according to It’s Time To Log Off. So it makes sense that we’re craving some tech separation, which is why Unplugged’s off-grid cabins, dotted across the UK, are so popular. And now the company is going one step further, hosting its own digital detox retreat in partnership with wellbeing centre Cabilla Cornwall

Unplugged To Host Its First Retreat At Cabilla Cornwall

Taking place this July, the three-night retreat is designed to help people truly switch off. Upon arrival, guests will be asked to hand in their phones, and in return they’ll be presented with old-school Nokias, instant cameras and physical maps. That means no racking up hours on Instagram, no WhatsApp notifications pinging away, no work emails, just pure, tech-free rest.

You’ll be staying at Cabilla Cornwall, set within 300 acres of rainforest on Bodmin Moor. This beautiful landscape will provide ample opportunity for nature immersion: the itinerary will include forest bathing, cold plunges in the river, morning yoga, sound healing and sauna sessions. Retreaters will stay in Cabilla’s cabins, which come complete with log burners and Bramley toiletries, with access to roam freely around the estate. And while you’ll have plenty of solo time, the retreat will also be an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals over campfire dinners and guided walks.

The upland hill farm of Cabilla has been around for over a century, but it was transformed into a wellness project in 2018. With a variety of retreats running throughout the year, it’s centred around the core principle of restoration – not just for people, but also for the land, which is currently being rewilded, allowing wildlife and biodiversity to thrive.

Unplugged, meanwhile, was launched in 2020 after founders Hector and Ben experienced burnout following years of fast-paced jobs in the tech industry. After nearing breaking point, Hector took himself to a Buddhist retreat, where he spent a quiet, phone-free 10 days, and came back a changed man: he quit his job, and decided to launch something of his own. Along with Ben, who had become tired of racking up 14 hours of screen time per day, the pair set out to create spaces where busy city dwellers could distance themselves from their devices without having to fly across the world, and so Unplugged was born. The company now has 30 off-grid cabins dotted amid natural environments around the UK, which have no Wi-Fi or technology.

‘Since day one, we’ve seen how powerful switching off can be,’ says Hector. ‘This retreat is the natural evolution of Unplugged, bringing like minded people together. By combining our digital detox philosophy with something more communal and immersive, we’re excited about giving busy folk a “fourth space” for them to connect properly through their love of nature and wellbeing. We’ve long admired Cabilla for the magic they’re creating on Bodmin Moor, and we couldn’t think of a better partner to help bring our first retreat to life.’

Digital detox travel has soared in popularity lately. According to the 2025 Hilton Trends Report, 27 percent of adults try to cut their social media use while on holiday, and home rental platform Plum Guide has reported a 17 percent rise in searches for unplugged properties. Many hotels offer dedicated digital detox packages too, from Careys Manor in the New Forest to renowned Thai hotel Chiva-Som Hua Hin and the Grand Velas Resorts in Mexico.
