A later living community worthy of Coopers Chase – just without the murders

With The Thursday Murder Club’s official arrival to the silver screen, love for Richard Osman’s cosy crime mystery is stronger than ever. Set in the fictional luxury retirement village of Coopers Chase in the ruins of a former nunnery, the pampered lifestyle of its sleuthing residents almost has us looking forward to our own retirement. While we can’t promise that every later living community will come with its own murder mystery to keep you entertained, Auriens might just be the perfect setting to start a Thursday Murder Club of your own.

Auriens: Is This The Most Luxurious Later Living Community?

Inspired by the retirement community in Sussex where Osman’s own mother lives, the fictional community of Coopers Chase is situated in Kent near the made-up town of Fairhaven. While you unfortunately cannot retire to any of the locations used to shoot the film, this luxury later living community in Chelsea might be the closest thing to a Thursday Murder Club inspired home.

Promising service to rival the very best five star hotels and private members clubs, Auriens boasts 24 hour concierge service plus a house car (chauffeur included) for all its residents’ needs. Alongside its 56 apartments, the on-site facilities include the all-day Culfords Restaurant & Bar much like the ‘contemporary upscale restaurant’ of Osman’s world (think Colbert and The Delaunay in style) with a menu created by a former chef at The Savoy. The community also includes a garden with al fresco dining, a cinema, salon, wine cellar, a drawing room-style library equipped with its very own baby grand piano, plus a speakeasy bar – perfect for all your murder mystery needs.

Designed for over 65s, Auriens is all about ‘active ageing’. Much like the beloved characters of Osman’s world – occupying themselves with social clubs, crimes and high-stakes adventure – Auriens focuses on maintaining its residents’ physical and mental wellbeing. While there may be no Thursday Murder Club to occupy you, Auriens seeks to combat loneliness with its packed social calendar of book signings, culinary courses, jazz suppers, talks, art classes, recitals, cinema screenings, dinners, coffee meet-ups and wine tastings.

If chasing down murderers doesn’t sound like your ideal retirement, Auriens also offers a slightly less macabre health and wellness programme in collaboration with Kyros Project – a collection of health experts led by ex athletes and top nutritionists. Alongside the 15-metre pool, vitality pool and salt sauna, the residence also includes a fully equipped gym and spa with tailored health and fitness programmes. All residents are offered an assessment with the Auriens Wellness team, who then create a bespoke fitness and nutritional plan designed with brain health, gut health, sleep and physical mobility in mind.

Where Is Auriens?

Auriens is a pioneering later living community located just off the King’s Road on Dovehouse Street in Chelsea. Historically home to actors, artists, and writers, Chelsea is the location for events such as the Chelsea Flower Show and cultural institutions such as Cadogan Hall and the Saatchi Gallery.

How To Buy Or Rent

One bedroom apartments at Auriens start from £2,750,000 to buy and £18,674 per month to rent. Two bedroom apartments and two bedroom plus apartments are also available. Discover more at here.

What Is The Thursday Murder Club About?

For those of you still struggling down your ‘To Be Read’ list, The Thursday Murder Club centres around four unlikely friends living in a peaceful retirement village in rural England, who meet up every Thursday to puzzle over unsolved murders. An adaptation of Richard Osman’s novel of the same name, the first in the series was published in 2020, followed by The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, The Last Devil To Die and The Impossible Fortune (with the latter slated for release this September).
