Here's what happens when two iconic Swedish homeware designers join forces

From Swedish meatballs to flatpack furniture, IKEA has brought many Nordic wonders to the UK. Now teaming up with fellow Swede, homeware designer Gustaf Westman, the duo is gearing up to launch a new 12-piece limited edition homeware range. A match made in homeware heaven? We think so.

Marking Westman’s first ever design collaboration with another company, these new designs will form part of IKEA’s annual winter collection, VINTERFINT. Promising a playful perspective on festive tradition, this collection includes everything from porcelain plates and vases to cups and candleholders. Take a look below.

According to Westman and IKEA, this collaborative collection is the result of a shared desire to explore a more modern and inclusive approach to seasonal celebrations, while also holding onto the spirit that makes these traditions so special.

Defined by Westman’s signature curvy, colourful and playful designs, the collection features a bold palette: think the classically festive red and greens, alongside hints of bubblegum pink and baby blue (which we will be keeping out year-round). Embracing contrast, the porcelain dining plates in dark green and pink are designed to complement each other in a striking table display.

Light is a key focal point for Westman: his IKEA range includes candlesticks and porcelain candle holders, as well as a rechargeable lantern with a round body that twists to expand into an eye-catching, orbital shape. In a nod to his Swedish heritage, we can also find a modern reimagining of the classic candelabra – a traditional feature in Swedish windows during the holiday period – in a rich festive red.

Elsewhere in the collection, Gustaf has designed a porcelain cup and comically oversized saucer set for a traditional glögg (mulled wine), inspired by Westman’s childhood memories of his grandmother’s holiday baking. Providing ample room for biscuits, the saucer is plenty large enough for the classic Swedish fika pairing to be carried alongside.

In the works since summer 2025, for fans of IKEA’s iconic meatballs, this Swedish collaboration was first teased with the playful meatball plate, a nod to Westman’s penchant for hyper-specific designs. Think mini pots for picky bits, a chocolate eclair holder, and his viral baguette holder.

Fans can now purchase the dedicated plate in celebration of the meatball’s 40th birthday on the IKEA menu. With 1.4 billion meaty boules sold annually, Gustaf’s new plate is perfectly tailored to hold a row of precisely 11 IKEA meatballs.

Just about outshining the meatball plate however is Westman’s bouncy vase. Made with a single metal spiral, this hourglass spring silhouette holds a separate glass vessel, allowing for drooping flowers to peek through the gaps, all while giving the illusion the bouquet is floating.

‘For me, this was an opportunity to take traditional holiday décor aesthetics and turn it on its head, instead, introducing a sense of playfulness and boldness,’ says Westman. ‘This is my interpretation of the holidays; it’s a new design for a new generation.’

Maria O’Brian, creative leader at IKEA Sweden adds: ‘Celebration often comes with established traditions, and we were curious to explore a more fun and inclusive take. Teaming up with Gustaf Westman felt like a natural match to help us reimagine the holidays with a twist. His approach to colour and form feels very true to IKEA, but he challenges conventions in a bold, expressive way. We are thrilled to make the work of such an exciting designer accessible to a wider audience.’
