‘I left my heart at a pub in Hampstead’, sings pop icon Ariana Grande in her song named for the London region. Though based in LA, the star temporarily lived in the celeb-loved borough while filming Wicked (parts one and two) at the nearby Elstree Studios. And now the penthouse that she rented out has hit the market for nearly £17m. Take a look inside Ariana Grande’s London home.

From Taylor Swift to Harry Styles, Hampstead has long been the go-to spot for celebs looking for a base in the capital. With its leafy green streets and village-like feel, the north London neighbourhood offers up a sense of seclusion and privacy, while sitting just a stone’s throw from the capital’s buzzy centre.

Living in Hampstead for a little over a year, the Thank U, Next singer came to refer to London as her ‘second home’. She told BBC Radio 1, ‘I was in Hampstead when I was here and I loved my walks in the Heath. I loved meandering and visiting the different shops and places and pubs.’ Her favourite local is said to have been The Holly Bush, which fans suspect inspired the lyrics of ‘Hampstead’. She added: ‘I didn’t know what a Sunday roast was but now I know that’s a thing. I didn’t know what that was and now I do and I’m changed for the better.’

While here, Grande chose to set-up base in luxury development Buxmead. Discreetly tucked behind the gates of The Bishops Avenue (AKA ‘Billionaires’ Row’), Buxmead is often referred to as London’s residential Fort Knox. Designed by Harrison Varma (one of London’s most revered luxury developers), the residence is set within 2.5 acres of private landscaped gardens, supported by an on-site crew of uniformed security. As Becky Fatemi, executive partner at United Kingdom Sotheby’s International Realty, explains: ‘What really defines Buxmead is its reputation […] that level of security and discretion is incredibly difficult to replicate. It attracts global individuals who want to live well without being seen, and that is reflected in every detail of the development.’

Grande, herself, opted to rent out the penthouse suite. This apartment had previously been acquired by Dean Main, founder of development and investment company Henigman in 2019 as part of a wider purchase of 11 apartments in the development. Originally bought in shell-and-core condition, Main carried out a meticulous three-year renovation of the penthouse.

With interiors by SHH Architecture & Interior Design, the penthouse is designed to bring the outside in – the 360-degree wraparound terraces enjoy views across Hampstead Heath and Kenwood House, while the borough’s soft greens, earthy tones and rich timbers are echoed throughout the home’s colour palette.

Spanning an impressive 9,677 sqft, the primary level of the penthouse features a vast reception room, kitchen, entertaining spaces and a principal suite in a separate wing with dual dressing rooms and an ensuite bathroom. Accessed via a private lift, the lower level, meanwhile, boasts a private dining room, study, bar, cinema room, games room and four further bedrooms. There is also a mirrored gym with a barre on this level, where Ariana Grande is said to have had private rehearsals and movement work during the filming of Wicked. And if the development’s security team and gates weren’t enough, the penthouse lift carries residents straight down to a six-car private garage.

Beyond the penthouse itself, Buxmead residents also gain access to the development’s 15,000 sqft of amenities – including a 25-metre indoor pool, a Technogym fitness centre, a spa with treatment rooms, sauna, steam room, hamman and jacuzzi, an 18-seat cinema, games room and residents’ lounge, plus a business centre, concierge and daily housekeeping.
