SW food spots worth travelling for

With its leafy Parsons Green park and pretty streets lined with Edwardian terraced homes and boutique shops, Fulham is beloved for its village-like feel. This continues into the area’s food scene: a mix of long-standing cafes, neighbourhood restaurants and cosy gastropubs which locals have long been congregating in. But sleepy countryside town this is not: Fulham’s restaurants pack a serious punch when it comes to food. We’ve enlisted publican Eamonn Manson, founder of the recently opened Brook and Badger pub, to share his top recommendations for where to eat in Fulham, South-West London.

Best Restaurants In Fulham: Eamonn Manson’s Pick

Hally’s

‘Hally’s was one of the first places in Fulham to really nail the all-day California-inspired café thing, and it still does it brilliantly. It’s bright, buzzy and permanently filled with locals. No mean feat with 13 years under their belt! The salads are genuinely delicious and the juices are always fresh and completely on point. It manages to feel upbeat and energetic without trying too hard, which is exactly why people keep returning. It’s the sort of cheerful neighbourhood café every area secretly wants.’

Nuovi Sapori

‘Nuovi Sapori is old-school local Italian at its absolute best. It’s a genuinely family-run restaurant that has built an incredibly loyal Fulham following over the years, largely because it does everything with warmth and consistency. The room has that comforting slightly retro charm that immediately puts you at ease, with the owners there every night making sure everybody is looked after properly. The food is exactly what you want from a neighbourhood Italian: generous pasta dishes, excellent veal and proper tiramisu. Restaurants like this are becoming increasingly rare in London and should be treasured accordingly.’

Interiors of The Brooke & Badger

The Brook and Badger

‘For years, I felt Munster Village was missing its soul – a proper local pub. That’s why we opened The Brook and Badger. We took over a Munster Road site that had been Italian spots for decades and breathed new life into it. I love seeing the terrace buzzing; it’s exactly the community hub I envisioned. Whether you’re here for a pint and some battered pickles or a full meal of pub classics and seasonal specials, we’ve worked hard to bring that authentic village charm to Fulham. Six months in and I’m proud to say we’ve become a permanent part of the neighbourhood fabric.’

Kebab Kid

‘Kebab Kid is one of those proper old-school London institutions that locals speak about with enormous affection. Opened in 1976 by Greek Cypriot couple Cos and Yanni, it has been feeding Fulham for decades and has long been a huge favourite with London cabbies, which usually tells you everything you need to know. There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about it: the glowing signage, the late-night energy and the comforting certainty that you’re about to eat something deeply satisfying.’

Koji

‘Koji has the feel of a buzzy West End Japanese restaurant and has always been a favourite of mine. The owner has been there for years, including through its previous incarnation, and there’s a real confidence to the place now. By the weekend, the room has a brilliant energy to it and the place serves genuinely great cocktails in a bar that people clearly enjoy settling into for the evening. The food is consistently excellent, and the whole restaurant has the sort of atmosphere that makes dinner quietly drift into late evening drinks.’

The Harwood Arms, Fulham, Chelsea

The Harwood Arms, Fulham

The Harwood Arms

‘The Harwood Arms is one of those rare places that completely lives up to the hype. A Michelin-starred pub could easily feel overly reverential, but this still feels fundamentally like a pub first and foremost – just one that happens to serve exceptional food. The game dishes are deservedly famous, the Scotch eggs a necessary appetiser and the whole place has a warm, slightly muddy-boots charm that makes it deeply enjoyable. It oozes the conviviality you actually want from a great British pub.’

Tinto Coffee

‘Tinto Coffee has become one of those places that quietly embeds itself into people’s daily routines. It’s a proper neighbourhood café in the best sense: warm, independent and full of regulars who all seem to know each other. The coffee is excellent without becoming overly serious about itself, and there’s always an impressive spread of pastries and brunch dishes emerging from the kitchen. I particularly like the fact that it still feels calm and welcoming even during the Saturday morning chaos of Fulham families and dogs.’

The Fox and Pheasant

‘The Fox and Pheasant feels like stumbling across a country pub that somehow landed in west London. Hidden away down a quiet Fulham backstreet, it’s impossibly charming, with roaring fires, cosy corners and one of the prettiest pub dining rooms in the city. It’s run so brilliantly well by hosts Toby and Raf, who definitely know the difference between hospitality and service! The food is comforting in all the right ways – excellent pies, great roasts and proper puddings – and the conservatory/garden is one of Fulham’s great hidden treasures when the sun appears.’

Brook House

‘Last but not least; the flagship of Fulham’s hostelries: Brook House (slightly biased!). Brook House sits beautifully overlooking Eel Brook Common and concentrates on aesthetic, ambience and great food. The room is beautifully decorated with a nod to faded grandeur. The menu delivers seasonal, on point cooking from a serious kitchen. If asked why the faithful keep returning I’d say the Sunday roast, the steak tartare and the friendly welcome. It’s pretty special for a date too!’
