The new version of coupe 4 offers more space and range

Polestar has released details of an all-new SUV – a roomier version of the ground-breaking 4. Offering exceptional luggage space and up to 391 miles on one charge, the stylish sports utility vehicle also boasts one of the lowest carbon footprints in the Swedish brand’s line-up. Priced some £2,000 cheaper than its coupe sibling, the eye-catching Polestar 4 SUV claims even greater versatility and increased levels of technology, while staying true to the Polestar design ethos.

The company hopes the new SUV can build on the success of its best-selling 4 stablemate, with upgraded interior tech and a conventional rear window – a feature replaced by a camera system on the coupe. ‘This latest model combines the usability of an estate with the presence of an SUV,’ says Matt Galvin, managing director of Polestar UK. ‘It’s about taking the best qualities of both and delivering enhanced practicality for the modern family.’

The latest model should broaden the appeal of the Swedish manufacturer’s top-selling 4, thanks in no small part to an enhanced luggage capacity of 1,665 litres and some neat interior features. That includes Vehicle-To-Load (V2L), a bidirectional power system that enables the SUV’s high-voltage battery to supply AC power to external devices, like camping equipment and power tools. Meanwhile, Google Gemini makes it possible to control a range of functions by voice, with an AI assistant offering more natural interactions. The technology can understand context and helps drivers complete more detailed tasks safely.

The interior follows the same design philosophy as the Polestar 4 coupe, carrying over a minimalist and technology-focused character. Said to be ‘inspired by the solar system’, ambient illumination allows occupants to tailor the cabin atmosphere through a selection of cosmic themes. The dashboard digital experience is centred around landscape-oriented centre and driver displays. User-friendliness is enhanced with an increased number of widget shortcuts on the main screen. A high-powered Harman Kardon Premium Sound system is available as an option, with 12 speakers and 1,400-Watt channel-hybrid amplifier. The unit has been specifically tuned for the 4 SUV.

Polestar says the interior trim was selected with sustainability and traceability in mind. The standard Bio-attributed MicroTech cloth features a backing made from 100 per cent recycled PET and a PVC surface containing 53 per cent organic content. Optional tailored knit upholstery is made from 89 per cent recycled PET waste and is 3D-knitted to size, minimising production waste. Bridge of Weir Nappa leather from Scotland is a chrome-free by-product of the food industry that meets strict animal welfare standards.

The redesigned body shape of the SUV allows an extra 2.5cm of headroom over the coupe model – a space amplified by a larger, panoramic sunroof that stretches all the way back to the rear tailgate. With a straighter roofline and redesigned, more upright tailgate, the SUV is equipped with full-length roof rails that can carry up to 100kg of family paraphernalia.

Offering both Rear Motor and Dual Motor all-wheel drive variants, the SUV powertrains match those of the 4 coupe. A 536bhp Performance model will add a and extra touch of dash. The sporty Dual Motor races from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and returns up to 373 miles on a single charge. The Rear Motor manages up to 391 miles, while accelerating from 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds.

As Polestar CEO, Michael Lohscheller, concludes: ‘The 4 SUV broadens the appeal of our most successful model and extends our product offering in one of the industry’s most important segments. With more space, more utility and more opportunities for adventure, it stays true to the design, technology and driving experience that define Polestar.’
