Thierry Henry’s $25 Million New York Penthouse Is On The Market

Located between the SoHo and Tribeca neighbourhoods, The Penthouse at 39 Crosby spans over 6,000 sq ft (plus another 3,400 sq ft outdoors), offering a level of space and privacy rarely found in downtown Manhattan. Henry first bought the penthouse – as well as the unit below it – for $14.85 million in 2010, and lived there full-time with his wife Andrea Rajacic for around five years. 

However, after Henry retired from professional football in 2014, they moved to London – while keeping the New York home to visit whenever they could. The visits became less frequent over the years, though, and the couple have now decided it’s time to say goodbye to their Big Apple pad – a decision Rajacic tells C&TH feels ‘bittersweet’. She adds: ‘Letting it go feels like the end of a beautiful chapter. Now that our life is centred in London, we’re here less and less, and we really feel that this home deserves to be lived in fully, filled with light, people and noise, the way it always was for us. That is what makes it easier. We hope whoever comes next loves it as much as we have, and I suspect they will. It’s very hard not to.’

Over the years, Henry and Rajacic have renovated the property multiple times. Soon after moving in, they combined the lower and upper levels to create one sprawling duplex complete with a rooftop pergola, barbecue area and outdoor dining space. 

The penthouse is as lavish as you’d expect from a world-class footballer. There are five bedrooms, five bathrooms, two powder rooms and multiple living spaces – not to mention the floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, wherever you are in the property. ‘The light reaches you from every side, in every season, at every hour,’ Rajacic says. ‘I’ve always been someone whose mood follows the light, so for me that was essential.’

Chefs will be in their element here: the open chef’s kitchen features a large marble island and custom Italian cabinetry, while a home office overlooks the city. Elsewhere, the main living area boasts 14-foot ceilings and a gas fireplace.

Outside, there’s a spacious roof terrace with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, which has no doubt seen its fair share of stars over the years. Even arriving is a luxurious experience, with two deeded parking spaces and a lift that opens straight into the apartment – ideal for security and privacy.

What will they miss the most? ‘How cocooned we felt there, high above downtown Manhattan with gardens all around us,’ Rajacic says. ‘Every morning, the first thing we saw from our bed was the sky, framed by Japanese maples and the planting on the terraces. It really is a sanctuary from the noise and crowds.’

French-born Henry rose to fame playing for AS Monaco, quickly gaining recognition for his scoring ability. He was pivotal in helping France win the 1998 World Cup, and went on to join Arsenal, where he became the club’s top scorer of all time. In 2007, he was transferred to Barcelona for a £16 million fee, where he stayed until being signed to the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer in 2010. Four years later, Henry retired from football and built up a name for himself as a pundit and coach – including a stint at his former club AS Monaco from 2018 to 2019.

London is the footballer’s main base these days, where he lives in a mansion in Hampstead – a hotspot for famous faces, with Harry Styles, Dua Lipa and Callum Turner, Ryan Gosling and Jodie Comer all owning properties in the area. 

Speaking to The Times, Henry discussed his long-time love for London, saying ‘I’m proud and happy to be French, but I knew right from the start that I was going to stay in London somehow.’ He added, ‘London is very open-minded and I like the directness of English people. They tell you if they don’t like you. My mentality has always been closer to that.’

He also said his mindset changed after having kids (he has four children – one with his ex-wife Nicole Merry, and three with Rajacic). ‘I did slow down. When you start a family, home is where your family is. I had three kids born in London, one born in New York, and now my family will dictate.’
