On the doorstep of the South Downs National Park, Amberley Castle is a beautiful luxury hotel steeped in over 900 years of history. Within its medieval walls, the Brownsword family has created a picturesque retreat blending ancient architecture and history with modern design and contemporary cuisine.

Set in 12 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens, the castle is enclosed by a high curtain wall, surrounded by colourful grounds. Guests can use the tennis court and croquet lawn, as well as an 18-hole putting course or simply wander through the castle’s gardens. There are games to borrow or perhaps enjoy Afternoon Tea by the fire after a wonderful walk across the countryside.

Inside, there are 19 bedrooms and the interiors reflect the history of the building, furnished with beautiful fabrics alongside contemporary features. In the kitchens, Matt Gillan, the newly appointed Executive Head Chef at Amberley, has brought his distinctive culinary direction to the castle’s Restaurant.

His menus showcase this philosophy through a focus on provenance and careful sourcing, celebrating the quality ingredients available from nearby suppliers. Afternoon Tea is also served daily at Amberley Castle in the historic lounges, restaurant, or on warmer days, on the terrace overlooking the castle grounds. These include a selection of traditional sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and delicate pastries, all crafted with seasonal ingredients.
