Hotel Review: Fouquet’s, New York

An off-radar Tribeca gem
Choosing a hotel in New York is all about narrowing it down to neighbourhood – where in the Big Apple do you want to hang? If that’s Downtown, Fouquet’s in Tribeca is residential in feels but a stone’s throw from all the fun and buzz.
What’s the story?
Opened in 2022, Fouquet’s combines that downtown, cobbled street, red-brick factory vibe with the elegance of a towering Parisian townhouse. (Fouquet’s is a small French hotel brand that began with Fouquet’s on the Champs-Élysées and expanded to include all the chicest spots: Saint Barths, Gstaad, Courchevel, Mykonos and New York.) Inside, Martin Brudnizki delivers his signature glamour, the French mustard and fluted wood of the lobby more of a sink-into-a-chair sitting room-cum-library with mega-watt art on the walls.
The Lowdown
I arrived from JFK sick as a dog and the soft, sheltering feel of Fouquet’s had me sorted lickety split. After raiding the medicine cabinet in my room and taking a hot steam-rain shower in the carrera marble bathroom (a great size for New York), I felt sufficiently better to venture to Titsou Bar, a secret little jewel box tucked behind a hidden door in the lobby. Full of locals, it has a dusky speakeasy vibe, with a marbled bar lit by little art deco lamps with fringed silk shades, scalloped green and burgundy bar stools and only seven low mirrored tables. In summer, Le Vaux – eight floors up on the rooftop with actual trees, the vibe inspired by the 17th century Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, outside Paris – is the place for cocktails (try the Tribeca Rose Garden) and chic snacks (wagyu sliders, spicy tuna).
The rooms are ultra feminine – all pinks and pale greens – and mine had a glossy pink lacquer cocktail cabinet next to the floor-to-ceiling factory-style windows and toile wallpaper depicting scenes of the city (including the young dogwalker with a pack of primped pooches).
Make time for the spa (and its shop, if you have money to blow – it stocks a great selection of brands, including Hunza G swimming cozzies if you forgot yours). It was the best jet lag fix, followed by breakfast in Élysée’s, the hotel’s conservatory-style restaurant, with fairy-lights wound through the olive trees, green wicker chairs and terracotta pots filled with blooms.

C&TH Key Notes
- The room to book: Any; they’re all a good size and so pretty. Make sure you splurge on the cult Lemme sleep gummies in the minibar. Combined with the sleep spray left at turn down, you’ll snooze right through any jet lag
- Drink order: A glass of Laurent Perrier Rosé, with some truffled popcorn on the side
- The highlight: Summertime drinks on the roof
- Don’t miss: The speakeasy (it is camouflaged after all, and very small, though they’ll always find a spot for hotel guests)
The Last Word
A New York-Paris mash up that delivers all the best of both: ultra chic and residential with great service and super fun vibes
